Posted - Apr 25 2008 : 6:27:26 PM Cowgirlmama, Congrats on the new grandbaby coming!!! Enjoy your weekend too. I spent a lot of time this week working out in the yard. Today it was very cool, so I was out there most of the day - cleaning out flower beds. Got to get that kind of work done before it gets hot.

Posted - Apr 24 2008 : 5:41:50 PM Thanks for replying. I don't have a bread machine. I guess I will dig out my old recipes and try them again. Best I remember, they were pretty good. Have a good day.

Hi, there! Oh my, I am sorry I missed your question about the bread recipes. I make one large batch of dough in my bread machine of 4 cups unbleached white bread flour to 2 cups whole wheat flour (I have a grain mill and grind my wheat). From this basic dough I can make two large loaves, or one loaf and rolls, etc. Whatever we are going to use that week. I usually make one loaf cinnamon-raisin: roll dough out into a rectangle and sprinkle a cinnamon brown sugar mix, raisins and/or pecans over it. Press into dough lightly and roll up tight, sealing loaf, makes great toast! When I make pizza I will do the same thing, make a large batch of Italian bread dough, take out what I need for the pizza, and then make 2-3 baguettes after the pizza is done to put in the freezer until I need them. I love trying out new recipes, my problem is not enough people here to eat it all There is just the two of us at home. I've never made Indian Fry bread - I make flour tortillas and pita bread. It's sort of like that, isn't it? That shop in Ardmore sounds neat! I'll have to check that out.

Posted - Apr 21 2008 : 6:27:26 PM frannie, let us know when the kids are born!---my husband drinks milk, and I use it on cereal, but that's it.We eat more tortillas than we use to-nice change from bread-I think it was about 90 south of the border today(that's the Red River). In this month's Country Living mag there is a neat shop advertised in Ardmore-it's called the Cloverleaf Boutique-any one familiar with it?I love funky, one of a kind items-plan on zipping up 35 soon to see it---back to the bread-has anyone made Indian Fry Bread? |

Posted - Apr 21 2008 : 05:55:48 AM Do you have a favorite bread recipe? Years ago I baked bread pretty often, but got out of the habit. Might have to get back in the habit.

Cowgirlmama, I hope you aren't sending those nasty hail storms up my way. It was very windy all day and actually almost hot - 83 degrees! Milk here is almost $4.00 a gallon too (we don't drink it, thank goodness) and today I paid $2.50 for a 18ct. carton of eggs. I have gone back to regularly baking bread - the price for that is unreal!

Posted - Apr 20 2008 : 12:59:47 PM I live in central Kentucky. I bought a gallon of milk at Kroger (their brand 2%)last night--it was $3.59. I don't buy eggs very often: we have 3 chickens, and a neighbor brings us fresh eggs as well. We feed and process our own beef. We raise a big garden each summer and fill a couple of freezers and many dozen jars. From the looks of the economy, we may be buying a milk cow!!

Posted - Apr 18 2008 : 10:14:17 AM Howdy cowgirlmama, I lived in Lawton for 3 months. I don't know how close that is to you though. I loved it though and always meant to go to Texas. If the people in Texas are anything like the people in Oklahoma, then I'm excited to get to know you!

Posted - Apr 17 2008 : 3:50:39 PM We just watch the goats and love on them-we have 2 males-one is an African pigmy, and the other is a neutered Boer/Nubian.They each came from different neighbors who raise goats. The neighbors both started raising them for little lawn mowers-also one neighbor's grandson shows them in FFA.But we just love them.We are looking forward to veggie garden next season-my husband just retired(I think I already said that),and will have time to devote to it.When you get chickens are you going to sell eggs? |

Posted - Apr 16 2008 : 09:56:57 AM Thanks, it is pretty amazing not to have all that stuff to take care of!! Wonder why we didn't do this before? I am doing so many things what I've been wanting to do for sooo long that I'm a bit overwhelmed. Will have to sort this out and decide what I really want. I feel like a kid in a candy shop and I can't pick and choose! It is a great feeling to be free of the weights of unwanted material things. You have goats? Do you sell the milk? or do soap making? One things I've wanted to do is have chickens. I was so amazed to see that some people down the street from us have chickens (and a garden space to die for!!) I never thought you could have chickens in town, sooo... maybe something to think about next year? Right now I am looking forward to a little gardening this year and enjoying sewing again and teaching sewing classes.

Posted - Apr 09 2008 : 5:18:00 PM Your home sounds wonderful-small town living is the best-my husband and I downsized alot when we moved to our little farm 11 years ago-We built a 2 bedroom-2 bath house-nothing fancy, and we love it!this change enabled my husband to retire at 64,and I recently graduated from UNT>and applied to Grad school-Having less to mess with/pay for/clean,etc. is so wonderful! It is funny how our priorities change as we get older-we are very happy, and it sounds like you are too!congrats! |

Posted - Apr 08 2008 : 11:01:42 AM No, we don't live in the country, but in a very small town called Noble. We move here last May from OKC where we had acreage and a large house. It was too much "up keep". Here we have a small home on 5 city lots with several garden areas and large shade trees. People here are friendly and very laid back! This reminds me of the small midwestern towns in Wisconsin that I grow up living in - it's very much like "coming home"! One of the best part of downsizing and moving was being able to quit my full time job.
