Hi, all -
I've been reading posts the last few days since I discovered the forum - I've found kindred spirits!
I first read about MJ a couple of years ago and recently re-discovered her, bought the book and most recent magazine, and signed in on-line. So glad to be here! I'm a wife, of 22 years, a mother of 3 boys, homeschooler, homemaker, Christian. I love to cook and read and have a wonderful garden. We have a chocolate Lab, Annie, and cat, Chloe, and many fish. My youngest son raises rabbits for 4H. My middle loves reading and hiking/canoeing. My oldest is in 2nd year Architecture in college. Someday he promises to build my dream cabin! My childhood was spent in the country and one of these days, we'll get back there. For now, inlaws have a beautiful farm with lots of animals. I've been reading reviews of A Sudden Country from the book list and will plan to get it this week. So nice to meet all of you!

KJD - welcome, and you are right about the coffee and wine visitations! You will really feel at home here, and keep posting! I am also a reader, and just bought the new Silas House book, The Coal Tattoo. He writes about the mountains of Kentucky and Appalachia. I also got Robert James Waller's new one, High Plains Tango. I am looking forward to reading both. I must look into A Sudden Country.....anyway, welcome!

Glad to be here. It's a nice place to hang out in the morning with a cup of coffee, or in the evening with a glass of wine...

Have you read "Trail of Thread?" I will have to go look who the author was..good one..all in journal form one woman writing to another as she and her family traveled west..really good one. I bought it at a quilt museum gift shop in Kentucky a few years back and just re-read it. The books you named are some of my favorites..I still havn't read any Gladys Taber yet..and I need to..that is on my list. AFTER A Sudden Country

Thanks for the welcome - A Sudden Country sounds good, as the pioneers have always been interesting - since I read The Oregon Trail, and one called Seven Alone, as a kid. Also enjoyed Love Comes Softly on Hallmark and have the book. I was looking at the Book thread a couple of days ago and someone mentioned The Egg and I - I got it off the shelf and am loving it again. It's such a great movie, too. I also went to Half PRice books the other day, armed with new recommendations. Right off, saw Gladys Taber's Stillwell Cookbook. Didn't find any of her novels, though. Did get a couple of others by Mildred Walker - Winter Wheat and The Curlew's Cry. Besides reading good stories, I love travel essays and cookbooks!
