Posted - Mar 24 2008 : 7:23:42 PM Hi Everybody!
I have a friend that is a Farmgirl and have been hearing about all the fun she's having on here so I just had to join!
I currently live in a suburb of Portland Oregon with my younger sister and dog. I'm a wonderful mixture of ethnicities but mostly Portuguese. I spent the best part of my childhood on a farm on the coast of California and am eager to finish my degree and get some land of my own! I'm studying accounting and taxes and would love to learn a new language (or two...or four!) I love the idea of making things for myself vs buying from a megastore and like to learn about how to live earth friendly. I look forward to improving my sewing, knitting, and general crafting skills. Cooking with new and exotic foods is exciting too! I think that having chickens would be fun and also love French Bulldogs. My favorite craft right now is origami and my favorite treat to make is Malasadas (Portuguese donuts.)
I look forward to chatting about all the ways of Farmgirl living!

Posted - Mar 26 2008 : 3:35:35 PM Welcome Karla, You have found the right site to help cultivate your "farmgirl" skills. There's plenty of advice here--real down-to-earth advice. I like to avoid the mega-stores as well. I try to buy from local growers and artisans--you get much better quality.

Posted - Mar 26 2008 : 08:11:28 AM Welcome to the group Karla! So glad you could join us, you sound like a true Farmgirl! I tried a little origami when my oldest son (now 25) was younger. I just didn't have the talent though. A very kind elderly gentlemen made my son a whooping crane out of paper and my son kept it for years.
Best of luck finishing up your degree! Again, welcome, welcome!
