Hello All,
What a fabulous website MaryJane has for all of us like minded farm girls!
I own a small farm in the Appalachian Mtns of Western MD. It is our family farm passed down from grandparents to my Dad, to me.
Currently, we have garden, a few guinea hens, and alot of hay to cut! My husband is finally on board with moving to the farm for good. We finally installed a new well and managed to get DSL so my husband and I can now work (we're telecommuting software developers) from the farm. We've been here since March but will be going back to town for the winter to get the house ready to sell.
Any vintage Ford tractor fans out there? I have 2 Ford 8Ns (1948 and 1949)...I'm restoring one of them to it's vitage colors. We use them both regularly...great tractors!

Hi Lisa and welcome!!! I too love old tractors and trucks but have to just admire from afar. My parents' neighbor has and old red tractor, I have no idea what year or make but he uses it all the time and it just purrs like a kitten. It's so cool!! |

hello,
Your 9N should have a serial number on the block that begins with 9N followed by approx. 6 numbers. Get the serial number then Google Ford 9N tractors for a host of sites that can help you identify the year.
Guineas are easy. Very noisy...but we love them. They are great for eating bugs...especially ticks.
As for hay production in your area...contact your local extension agency for info specific to your area. In our area, we can get 2 cuts usually...but it all depends on weather...the plant material/maturity.

That's so neat that your farm has been passed down through the generations. It must make it so special! And it's so great that you can work from home! I hope you enjoy it here! There are so many wonderful ladies on this forum it's hard not to have a great time!

Welcome Lisa...how neat to have a job that you don't have to commute to...that is sure a plus!! I am glad you found us!! My grandpa used to raise guineas and I always liked them. Hmmmmm I am always up for new animals here...don't tell my husband but I am getting ducks this coming spring..I miss the ones I had in CAlif and have been almost 4 years without ducks now...time for more!!
