Posted - Feb 01 2008 : 5:15:07 PM Hi,
I'm Kathy. I joined a while ago but just got my computer back so this is my first post. Does anyone live close by? I enjoy quilting, knitting, crocheting, and I'm learning how to spin. Hope to hear from other farm girls out here (and out there too).
Enjoy! |

Posted - Mar 18 2008 : 07:35:55 AM I have lots a friends who went down and participated. From what I have heard it was a ton of fun! There was a lot of mud, but that's Nevada for you! A friend of mine and her baby rode in the limo as the stand in when the filmed the family coming home. They pre-shoot as much as they can, then edit. We never did get down that way, sorry to have missed it.

Posted - Mar 17 2008 : 09:03:32 AM I am sure they contacted businesses before hand to set things up. but as far as I can tell from local news shows it was all in one week round the clock. they said that they take the family to pick out some of the furniture to go in their house but after that they send them off on vacation- it was nice to know that the families got to pick some of the items in the house.

Posted - Mar 17 2008 : 08:39:18 AM Do they really do all that in one week, or is a lot of it done ahead of time?

Posted - Mar 17 2008 : 08:33:18 AM It was kind of neat to see the show and know that it is just up the road from us. One thing that was bothersome as some of the places they went to were not local- maybe down in Dayton but not local to Stagecoach or Silver Springs.. like the Biker Bar, the welding shop didn't look local, the tatoo shop- well I am sure they had to go out of the way for that one- we don't have much here but the bar, the welding shop we could have provided..

Posted - Mar 17 2008 : 08:30:00 AM I was watching that show last night and when they said Stagecoach NV, I said "Hey I know someone from there!!" and my dh looked at me funny and said "You do???????" I guess he thought I had a secret life or something, but then I reassured him it was one of my farmgirl sisters!!

Posted - Mar 17 2008 : 06:02:28 AM Hi there, I couldn't help but ask if you might know the people from your hometown who received the Extreme Home Makeover? Besides HGTV, the only show I like to watch is Mr. Ty Pennington and his makeover show - I think it is the most heart warming show to watch. Love to see good things happen to good people. It was odd but when they announced where they were going that week, you were the first person that popped into mind - thinking "I know somebody from there." Oh well, just ramblin', just wanted to see what you and Stagecoach thought about the blessing that family received. Have a beautiful Monday.

Posted - Feb 04 2008 : 9:54:02 PM I buy from them- well before they shut down for the season. If we were buying this house- or planning on staying I would invest the time and money to make use of the sandy soil. But Nevada just isn't our cup of tea. Many people love it- we just miss the green.. having lived in CA most of our lives, then Oregon for 11 years, then the foothills of CA for another 2 years- we love forested areas- we love green..

Posted - Feb 04 2008 : 5:49:55 PM Hi Debra,
I know it's barren but there is an organic farm in Silver Springs. They sell shares and people work for their veggies. I bet they could give you some tips since they have the same soil. Here's the info...

Posted - Feb 03 2008 : 10:29:29 PM Welcom Mythkat, you will find a lot a ladies who are into spining on the form as well as other fun crafts, so jump in & have fun... Joyfulmama, I had to laugh at your comment about your house being a "litterbox"(built on sand)....we to have 5 acres, of sandy loam,,,but the winds are herrendous out here on the "prarie" lol! We live on the outskirts of Spokane, love it, just not to kean on the winds. I am a big fan of open windows but with these winds, not such a good idea! tata-4-now

Posted - Feb 03 2008 : 10:47:58 AM Here we live in a cat litter box. all sand. the first house was harder- I actually liked that one better for property. but this one has a newer house- we dont' feel grubby. We are on 5 acres of sand. So not sure what we will do. when the wind blows sand blows everywhere. thanks for the encouragement.

Posted - Feb 03 2008 : 10:43:52 AM Hi Debra,
I've lived in Stagecoach for 2 years now. Before we lived in Indian Hills for 7 years. I'm a Navy brat so we lived all over, Hawaii to Alaska, Virginia to Japan. I had my first chickens in Japan, learned to fish and hunt in Alaska, and graduated high school in the Bay Area. I wish it was greener here so that's what I'm going to do with our forty acres. I've scrounged up lots of local resources that are affordable (read cheap) for planting. It takes a little more work here but you can achieve great results. Our home in Indian Springs was built on clay. We had to use a power auger and a jackhammer to plant. LOL But when we were done it was beautiful. In the spring crocus would come up in the lawn and it looked like a meadow. The red trumpet vine on the porch would bloom and attract humming birds, butterflies, and sphinks moths. Don't give up on Silver Springs yet.
Enjoy! |

Posted - Feb 03 2008 : 10:25:13 AM Kathy, how long have you been in Stagecoach? We used to live off of Shirlee but moved into this house the end of September. We have only been in NV since July. We don't like it, to be honest. But we grew up in CA, then lived in Oregon for 11 years before going back to the foothills of CA for 2 years. I just can't get used to it out here.
