Hi everyone, I'm new and live in Adelaide, Australia. We live on an acre of land in suburbia, and have 4 chickens, 1 old goat and a galah. I love cooking for our tribe of 5 children and their partners and growing our own vegies. I'm looking forward to making some new friends.

Hello Bernadette!

You are a welcome addition! I think you'll enjoy yourself here. So many lovely and gifted women!

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk to blossom

I'm amazed at the bird's age, Bernadette. I know that these birds can live to be that old, but I've just never encountered one that was! And what a special thing that you and your dh agreed to be his caretakers now.

Our bird is getting on in age he is 45yrs old now, we inherited him from my husbands parents, and he doesn't mind a scratch, but i wouldn't trust him any closer than that. Our children are 28, 25, 22, 19 and 17, 2 boys and 3 girls, plus 2 grandsons, and another due in 4 weeks.

Yes, my 'Angel' has a very loud screech, too. He/she(don't know which) says things like 'Take a shower?', 'Hello', 'How are you?' 'telephone', 'Let me OUT!' and 'Come on!'(followed by a beckoning head movement to emphasize the importance of following, mostly so he can nip at your ankles when you get close enough! LOL I think the poor bird has been passed from owner to owner too many times. He really isn't friendly. But my dh and I love him just the same. We hope to be able to adopt him permanently when we move to our farmhouse. How old are you children? Your human children, not your animal children. ;)

He does, almost non stop at times...and has the most ear piercing screech.

Welcome, Bernadette. I help take care of a cockatoo in an animal shelter. I've seen photos of Galahs, and they are a beautiful bird. Does your bird talk?

Thank you for the welcome girls, and a galah is a pink and grey bird similar to a cockatoo.
