Posted - Aug 18 2005 : 2:18:29 PM Hi everyone, I'm new here. I've had a dream for many years to own a farm and be self sufficient, but with little to no money it's difficult to say the least. I am actually thinking of just selling everything (well almost everything) and going for it. But honestly I don't know where to start. Anyone have any suggestions! Cathy |

Posted - Aug 25 2005 : 2:17:34 PM I too rented first, then bought. Although the people I bought from took a bit of advantage, I knew ahead of time what I was in for. That was 7 years ago...still have the farm, and another one...So if someone says take a flying leap----go for it:)

Posted - Aug 25 2005 : 11:08:58 AM We had success with renting for a year, than buying the property..but be careful, I also know people who lost out on such deals...all depends on the owner and his/her financial situation/scruples.
And oh yes, welcome from another Midwesterner. |

Posted - Aug 25 2005 : 09:09:56 AM You know, there is a series of article in Backwood Home (or something like that) on starting over. The current issue is on part 6. You could probably check on line. I think it may be about a woman starting over and being self sufficient.

Posted - Aug 24 2005 : 4:28:32 PM Hi Cathy and welcome. Wow, you sound like you're in the same situation I'm in. I live alone, want to live on a few country acres, and am in the situation right now where I'm actually thinking of selling my house and taking the plunge. It's a very scary idea especially when you have no one else to back you up or catch you when you fall. Life is short; I guess we've just got to go for it. Good luck to you. |

Posted - Aug 18 2005 : 9:50:27 PM Thank You Karen. And trust me I will ask a lot of questions, lol. I've been thinking of doing this for a number of years but was always afraid to just go for it and now I'm at the point where I'm saying to myself "why not, what do I have to lose?". Cathy |

don't have any real suggestions except you and you alone know what breaks your heart and what makes your heart sing. Life is short and if you can, you should.
