Hi everyone, I'm new here. I've had a dream for many years to own a farm and be self sufficient, but with little to no money it's difficult to say the least. I am actually thinking of just selling everything (well almost everything) and going for it. But honestly I don't know where to start. Anyone have any suggestions!

I too rented first, then bought. Although the people I bought from took a bit of advantage, I knew ahead of time what I was in for. That was 7 years ago...still have the farm, and another one...So if someone says take a flying leap----go for it:)

We had success with renting for a year, than buying the property..but be careful, I also know people who lost out on such deals...all depends on the owner and his/her financial situation/scruples.

You know, there is a series of article in Backwood Home (or something like that) on starting over. The current issue is on part 6. You could probably check on line. I think it may be about a woman starting over and being self sufficient.

Hi Cathy and welcome. Wow, you sound like you're in the same situation I'm in. I live alone, want to live on a few country acres, and am in the situation right now where I'm actually thinking of selling my house and taking the plunge. It's a very scary idea especially when you have no one else to back you up or catch you when you fall. Life is short; I guess we've just got to go for it. Good luck to you. |

i'm right there with you cathy-- little to no money but a dream big enough to overcome it.... i hope!!! my fiance and i are trying to figure out how to make the change from city to farm and i'm awaiting the suggestions too-- i'll let you know!

Thank You Karen. And trust me I will ask a lot of questions, lol. I've been thinking of doing this for a number of years but was always afraid to just go for it and now I'm at the point where I'm saying to myself "why not, what do I have to lose?".

don't have any real suggestions except you and you alone know what breaks your heart and what makes your heart sing. Life is short and if you can, you should.
