Well, I'm a farmgirl with a farm of my own in SW Arkansas, where we raise vegetables and children, and an everchanging combination of rabbits, dogs, chickens, pigs, cats, sheep and goats. I sell my veggies through a home delivery service (I am "The Farmer's Market that comes to you"!) and my husband and I also do landscaping. I have two sweet children and am lucky enough to live in my hometown of under 1000 people, surrounded by friends and family who have been neighbors for generations. I am living my dream, and I know it is the unfulfilled dream of alot of others, and I hope you get there someday!
But living this dream is a hard life. For the last few months I have become overwhelmed and I haven't felt satisfied with my personal output - I am not getting enough sleep, piling up obligations, and, in short, continually running about three days behind!
Someone passed on a stack of magazines to me, and in that stack was an issue of MaryJanes Farm! What a joy. Like I've read here before, I saw something there that I had been missing - but it wasn't MaryJane, it was me! In an effort to make my life more streamlined, I have slowly let go of all kinds of ornament, decoration, or gussying up, and this is an important part of my identity. I can get it back in a way that is meaningful to my farm and country life.
So last week I spent a little time making a cute working apron out of an old pair of jeans that has been a handy thing in the garden and farmyard. When I put it on it reminds me that I am cute and smart and making do is cute and smart! And it already was essential in an emergency pig fence repair. I'd alot rather spend a couple of hours cutting and sewing than a couple of hours chasing pigs!!!

Welcome, Georgiaberry! We're almost neighbors. I live in Northwest Louisiana in Red River Parish. Not right next door, but close! We're glad to have you. I love your Sunshine blog and the idea of your alternate uses for aprons brought a big smile to my face! I love it. Aprons. The versatile farmgirl tool!

Is Fouke near the border of LA? If it is that's the place I ate the best plate lunch in the world in a little cafe on the main road!!!
Can't remember WHAT I ate but it was good and I could sniff my way back to the cafe!
Plenty of gussying up goin on here! See the Apron sew along and many others!!!

Oh, Dixie, I forgot to say that yes Fouke is south of Texarkana. If anyone has ever seen the movie 'The Legend of Boggy Creek' that is Fouke! It is like a true documentary of our town, whose claim to fame is the Boggy Creek Monster!!!
If you come to Fouke, you can stick your face into a cutout of a monster face and get your picture made that way!

Wow - thanks for all the warm wishes, ladies! I am just in awe of all the many blogs I have read from the bloglist post. Such a great form of communication. I know that the blog is an invaluable marketing tool for our farms or any creative business, because people want to share our lives and have a personal connection when they buy our product, whether that product is aprons or veggies or whatever. I am determined to post more often.
I get alot of interest in the bitter melon entry!

So glad that you are here GeorgiaBerry! Your farm sounds just lovely. How nice that you took time to do a fun project this week. I just made my first apron tonight from Maryjane's Stitching Room book. I just love it and can't wait to wear it tomorrow.

Welcome GeorgiaBerry, your life seems so full and interresting. It is great you found one issue of MJ magazine, they remind us that without us being happy and ourselves, whatever we do has less meaning. Here, we all remind eachother who we are, sister farmgirls..
I've enjoyed your blog immensely and would have liked to be on your delivery route.
The bitter melon you mention it a vegetable that people from Idia and Sri Lanka use a lot. When your stomach is upset or when your system needs to balance food too rich and too sweet, they fry it with herbs like parsley or coriander, then add powder turmeric and eat it warm. It is a bit bitter but not bad at all. We have it regularly here in my kitchen especially during fall and spring.

Hi GeorgiaBerry! Well, though it sounds like work, you are living my dream life! I think we can all agree it can get madly hectic, whether you live on or off the farm, but it's good to know you are getting back to yourself, as we all should! Let's not remember to put ourselves at the TOP of the "to do list"!

It's fulfilling to do gussying up activities for our homes, it's good to know you chose to get some of that goin' on again.
It's sobering to hear just how hard folks really work on their farms. My dream farm"ette" includes chickens & goats...but planning brings the realization that they're dependant on their humans 24/7, 365 days a year, so it may be a bit yet. Always love stories from other farmgirls about their "real deal" though, so hope you'll post often.

And I agree...sewing is way more fun than chasing pigs..but sometimes you gotta chase pigs..at least you will be cute doing it in your new apron, right??? I am glad you found us!

Your farm sounds wonderful! I love the sound of your arpon! I can just imagine a very cute and very stylish recycled jean apron in my mind's eye! Isn't it amazing how something so simple as an apron soon becomes indispensible?
The other day I had to run to go pick up DH from the store and I was in my "relaxing clothes" aka sweats. I didn't want him standing in the snow and cold as I changed to "presentable clothes" so I tossed on one of my full aprons and away we went! Then we decided to do grocery shopping. Now, normally I would have been a bit mortified walking around in public in my relaxing clothes- but with my apron on- I didn't mind at all!!
