Hi everyone,
My name is Julie, i love in Eagle Idaho, and grow flowers..this year I have been selling at the Boise farmers Market, and it has been alot of fun..i owned a flower biz in California for 20 years, and now am living a dream..I can`t seem to get away from flowers..anyway, i just ran across MaryJanesfarm magazine, and love it!!! I want to visit, and am excited to be here..just wanted to say hi to you all!! and i want to learn more!!

Hi Julie:
I live in Boise. One of my favorite memories of childhood was going to the farmer's market with my mother in Ohio and buying flowers. Zinneas are my favorite and they have to be wrapped in newspaper to be right. When I grew Zinneas outside my window last year I had a never ending supply of hummingbird shows. I'll try to come down and say Hi at the market.

Welcome and I hope that I can ask you questions about gardening. I would like to have a green thumb, but looking at my garden, doesn't even look like I have thumbs!

Welcome Shannon...wow..alaska! What a neat place to live! I have always wanted to visit Alaska..maybe someday..your life sounds so exciting!! I don't know about moose since they are so much bigger, but I do have to keep deer out of my garden some, and in the winter I have to protect the young fruit trees from deer..they will just eat them to the ground!! I am glad you are here...I hope someone knows about the moose thing..maybe one of our Canada gals!!??

Wow! Shannon! Welcome! What an adventure your life is! Good for you. Around here when serious gardeners want to keep the animal life out, like deer and elk, they use a 6 foot high (or more) fence. If you click on the "tour" button at MaryJanesFarm.org, you'll see her examples used in her gardens. That being said, we don't generally have moose or bear around here, so not sure how it would work for those two larger animals! Good luck!

Hi, I'm Shannon and just moved to Chickaloon, Alaska after living in the "city" of Anchorage for 20 years. Before that was the small town of Palmer. Total time in Alaska: 23 years. We are excited about living our dream on 40 acres, off the grid, in a log home on a mountain without any full time neighbors around us. I discovered MaryJanesFarm mag. on the local grocery store shelf and actually bought it for my husband - he loves organic gardening and I thought he needed to get closer to his feminine side. (Ha!Ha!) We have been married for 27 years (high school sweethearts) and have 3 grown children (+ 1 son-in-law) and 1 new grandbaby. I love to sew, paint, do demolition/remodeling work, garden and go fishing (alot).
I have a garden of 20 raised beds: raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, varity of flowers and vegi's. Although as of yesterday, my vegi's are not! A moose ate all my broccoli/brussel sprouts/ swiss chard and some peas. So, now I need some help from the farmgirls about keeping the moose out of my garden... not to mention the grizzly bear and black bear that has wondered through occasionally. (The grizzly got within 20 feet of me!) We are hoping to get a small herd of reindeer to raise for meat and to milk. This is all a learning experience for me and can use all the advice I can get. hey Julie! am located in northwest Indiana.15 miles from the southwest michigan border.about an hour and a half from chicago.
I used to work in chicago and would drag flowers in a bucket on a luggage cart on the train and then 10 blocks to my building and sold a few bouquets there.about once a week. It was a pain but I needed the extra $ at the time.I am looking forward to getting started next year with the flower subscription thing in my local areas.What the heck im gonna grow them anyway!!!!!

I would love to do master gardner. where are you located? i am going to try and promote the flower delivery subscribtion. I just heard about it through this site, and am all excited to do it! i have a small greenhouse, and do have some areas on automatic water. well good to meet you!! thanks for welcoming me!

hi karen..i hope i am doing this right.
i do not sew, but i would love to learn to quilt. i have four kids who keep me busy, so right now just gardening, and loving it. i have chicken and horses and dogs also. nice to meet you!quote:

your biz sounds great!!! That is what I want to do starting next year!! Ive just hooked up with some master gardeners in my area and may take the class myself. Have you tried the flower delivery subscription service ever??Do you have an automatic watering system and a greenhouse? I want to start with the least amount of equippment and go from there...You will love this site. we all speak
