Hi there,

I just discovered the Mary Jane Farms magazine last week. I Love the concept of offering our creations and inspirations in such a simple way.

I live in the woods of Buckatunna, Mississippi....Ever heard of it? LOL I'm about 75 miles north of Mobile, Alabama. I have traveled most of my life...now I have landed on this beautiful piece of planet earth as of last October. NO matter where my future travels carry me to I will always call this home and that's a wonderful feeling.

I have owned dairy goats on and off over the past 15 years. I share in ownership of a dairy goat herd. There are 6 Saanen does (milking 3 of them right now), 2 Saanen doeling kids, 5 Nubian does, 2 Nubian wethers, 1 Saanen Buck, 2 Nubian bucks, 2 Nigerian Dwarf bucks, 1 Nigerian Dwarf doe, 2 Nigerian Dwarf kids and 1 Toggenberg doe and her kid...and a few Nubian kids.

We have a large barn with a 16 x 16 foot milking room inside the barn...milking machine, triple compartment stainless steel sink, refrigerator, air conditioner, etc. Yes, it is nice and "been a long time coming" I might add...LOL

We have a Anatolian Guardian dog and two other no name dogs :o), about 20 cats and a dozen or so chickens. There are otter, beaver, and turtles in the lakes that surround the land. They are fully stocked with brim, bass, catfish, crappie, carp and the occational gar that filters in from the creek that feeds into the lakes.

I have never identified as many types of Woodpecker as I have seen up here, duck, sandhill crane, herrin......we are on the edge of the De Soto Forest.

I have made the French Chevre, yogurt cheese, and plain lemon cheese but haven't tryed any aged cheese yet. Please tell me about the recipe for the Farmstead Cheddar that is ready to eat in 24 hours, OK??

I collect and sew with vintage fabrics. I refer to my home as a sewing studio with a bedroom, bath and kitchen....LOL

Me and my calico cat reside with all this beautiful fabric. I am excited about the Marketplace to post our things for sale. I am currently making "dream pillows" using vintage pillow ticking and filling with organic lavender buds...harvested right here in the USA! Let me know if you want the info for the lavender. I'm also making "ribbon flower" pins using the french ribbons, fabrics, and laces....whatever my imagination says will be next :o) My label name is "Dream Kingdom", Creations for the Journey..

I love crocheting, machine sewing, machine embroidering, and especially detailed hand sewing. It truly is a wonderful way to stay in the moment.

Look forward to hearing from all you farmgirls (living it or dreaming of living it) out there...Are there any farmgirls out there over 40 living a single life (again)? Would love to hear from you. I am entering the world at 47 years old and single for the first time.

Blessings for this day,
Stephanie

Hi there and welcome!

I totally agree with Molly...don't be scared about school. The great thing about college and university (or any post-secondary school) is that age stops mattering and you find like-minded peers of all ages. If it's something you dream of doing, don't let social biases get in your way. Good luck!!!!

I've just turned 35 and have been alone on my place for just over two years now. It's been tough working full time in town (half an hour drive on the highway and now up in the Arctic), trying to get hay in, renovating a house that was abandoned and repossessed before I got it (hello rats and bugs and cold!!!!), looking after eight beasties, heating a house with firewood, attempting to write and be published... People often tell me I'm crazy or ask why I bother. But it's so quiet, so private. My animals make me laugh. No one's around to tell me what I 'should' be doing. I've gotten a bit of a reputation for being a tad eccentric so when I added a homeless llama to my menagerie, people just smiled and said hey, that's Anastasia for you. Lean on your friends and family if you need to/can; they are a wonderful gift. Don't get overwhelmed, take time for yourself, and follow your dreams. It'll happen.

Cheers,
Anastasia

Hey there Philly Farmgirl,

Thanks for the welcome :o) Glad you enjoyed the description of my place...some very good friends of mine blessed me with this piece of land to live on for as long as I want to. I moved here from Mobile County, Alabama where I had lived for almost 6 years. That is about 75 miles south of me now. I had a cottage and three acres of land and my dairy goat herd.

My husband of 20 years enlightened me last September to the fact that he had another woman and was starting a new life. Me having been a stay at home wife most of those years was left in a totally helpless situation. I had to sell my place and so my friends helped me move out and moved me to the woods with them. I now have a moble home nestled in these woods with a lake in my front yard and Buckatunna Creek in my back yard. It is just beautiful! Now if I could just have a tiny cottage built....maybe one day I can...

I am slowly healing from the traumatic turn of events in my life and I am determined to establish a life for myself. I love my sewing and will continue to pursue that as my business. I've thought of going to college but at 47 years old it is a bit scary. I am very attached to my sewing because it is comforting and it inspires me to do what my heart desires right now. I will take one day at a time and know that God will lead me down the right path when they present themselves to me. If not for His love and forgiveness I would have nothing.

My divorce hearing is set for August 18th. This is the second time this year it has been scheduled so say a prayer for me that it is finalized this time around.

I looked at your blog site. It's very nice. I have just recently discovered this site by buying the Mary Janes Farm magazine.
Look forward to hearing from you and other farmgirls out there.

Any other farmgirls out there that are single (again) and discovering what paths to take in life???

Blessings, Stephanie

Welcome Stephanie! I am so glad to meet you! I love how you describe your home. I remember when my children were younger I sewed all their clothing exclusively. Well, you can imagine what my home looked like at times! It really looked like a sewing studio with all the 'extras' you mentioned. I still do not have the luxury of a sewing room, but my house does not turn into a full fledged studio anymore.I am not sure if that is good or bad?? Maybe I am not sewing enough. I think it is because I do not have enough room, what with the quilt hoop, sewing baskets, knitting baskets, misc. baskets lying about
I am looking forward to reading more of your posts!
Blessings,
Philly Farmgirl
