I have been a farm girl since I was tiny! My fondest memories were visiting my grandpaents farm, I lived there most summers! I dated a couple farmers before I married a carpenter 11 yrsago. How shocked I was to find out the culture differences between farm kids and city slickers! Well I am working on him, he helped me plant our garden this year, now he knows those veggies may be cost effective from the garden, but they are also work! We have 6 beautiful blessing,5 girls and the youngest is a boy(he is my turn for the shock!) All the kids are farm kids, we love to play in the dirt and find things growing, flying, wiggling, my 5yr old even has pet worms in the basement (those sophisticated types call it vermiculture, we feed our table scraps to her "pets".) The little one pets and talks to her babies everyday. She is better with them than most kids are with dogs! We are a creative family if it can be built or designed by our hands out of wood paint tile film or cloth, we have done it. I love to recreate things, old furniture, old fabric, old coats, transformed into something new. I am looking forward to one day haveing a big old farm house to call our home, knowing that it has had the grace and strength to hold other loving families like ours. Our Homeschool brings to light many creativities, my girls have the freedom to imagine and complete those things in their minds. My girls have their own sewing machine and box of scraps, (mostly cuz momma doesnt share well!)and they often surprise me! Next week we plan to cover an old patio table in a mosaic. I would not survive without a garden, I love knowing my food is healthy and fresh, so we do alot of canning and freezing. I dont yet have my own farm, but we have a new family of friends that let us work on their farm when we get the urge to be close to God! I keep telling them it is like my weekly retreat! We helped with hay this year and I surprised them when I really did know how to milk cows. My babies enjoy chasing kittens and chickens, and they know chickens dont say "cluck"! Well this is just a little about me and my family, just scratching the surface but I hope to get to know you well! Tami

livin' right and loven' life!

Welcome Tami! We are also a homeschooling family and at this point it is just our way of life. I had to laugh when I read the part about how 'momma doesn't share well! I am the SAME way! It is so funny, I try to get them their own things when it comes to sewing and crafting things because I am the same way, LOL! You sure sound like you have a lot of fun! Loved hearing about the little ones pets!
Blessings,

Philly Farmgirl

We also homeschool our five blessings, have 6 chicks (getting big already!), and have a small garden. We make lots from scratch as well and enjoy the creative process.

We are renting a small apartment right now (two family) and are thankful we can do what we are... but we continue pray that someday we will have a more home based farmsteading lifestyle.

Thanks for sharing!
Warm wishes,
Tonya

Welcome, Tami,
It all sounds awesome and you paint a picture that's easy to imagine. Your kids are going to learn so much from your choices. And it sounds like you absolutely love what you are doing, too. I'm anxious to hear more from you and how your family is progressing with farm life. I can't imagine that it will take your husband too terribly long to come around and learn to love it as much as you do. God's blessings shower you abundantly.

In His hands,
Lynda

Welcome Tami!
I am new this week to this forum...I'm already enjoying getting to know everyone here.
We also homeschool...four at home...three girls and one boy. I have two grown boys...one is in the Military stationed at Fort Bragg, NC...the other lives in our old farm house. We built a new house on five acres three years ago.
We keep very busy with many projects here on the place....we have Herb Gardens/Vege Garden/many Flower Beds/Fruit Trees/Nubian Milk Goats/Chickens/Rabbits/Dogs/Cats/and Kids (two legged and four legged kids)
I am starting a Farmgirl Chapter as soon as I get the Kit in the mail. Another friend and her daughter will be joining me and my daughters for the Chapter meetings. We hope other mothers and their daughters will join soon. :-)

Hi Tami! Welcom! I am new as well. Our farm is very small scale, so I too go and help out on a large farm once a week. She is a dear friend of mine and a single mother of one working and running a non-profit teaching farm. It's a great learning experience for the kids and I and a big help to her. We have a lot of shade where we live so we have been able to grow veggies at her place. We brought home lettuce, carrots, peas and radishes yesterday and had a yummy salad with our dinner. It is very rewarding to grow and eat your own food!!

Blessings,

Missy
