Posted - Jun 07 2007 : 6:45:17 PM Hi my name is Shari.I'm 46 this July. I'm married to my DH Scott. We are empty nesters and have raised 6 kids and have our 7th grandchild on the way. We plan on retiring in about 3 years and hope to buy a small farm in either N.C. or VA and "get off the grid." I'm looking forward to making new friends and being a farmgirl.

Posted - Jun 09 2007 : 4:51:54 PM Patti - The people I know from St. Ann are Jackson and Goodwin. I am sorry - no Brockmann! Small world, huh? I love it. I loved St. Ann, too. I worked at the big mall there, Northwest at the time, and I was so young! Worked at Boyd's. I was 20!

Posted - Jun 08 2007 : 4:49:51 PM Thank you so much for your warm welcome. I've never belonged to a chatroom before so this is all new to me. I'm also very slow on the computer, so please bear with me. I've been reading some of the topics here and this is just the place I was looking for. I hope I fit in ok. I'm not a farmgirl yet so I've got a lot of learning to do in the next 3 years and I'm eager to get started. Thanks Everyone!

Posted - Jun 08 2007 : 2:42:07 PM jpbluesky, a couple who have been good friends of my parents since I was in grade school (over 30 years now) live in St. Ann. We would go spend a weekend with them every few months and they'd come down to our house. Did you know anyone by the last name of Brockmann?

Posted - Jun 08 2007 : 11:41:03 AM Welcome, Shari! Long ago, I lived in St. Ann, and was raised in Illinois. So, I am a little familiar with your part of the country. There is pretty farm land around there. Welcome to the MJF site - you will love it here. (I am a grandma, too, but called nana, and I love being one). Good to have you!

Posted - Jun 08 2007 : 09:29:19 AM A BIG warm welcome to you Shari! Hope your dreams come true in having your own farm! I have many family members that grew up in MO and made their way to CA. My favorite cousin Jeanette Roberts and I were pen-pals for many years growing up. She was raised on a family farm with 13 sibblings! The farm is in Maywood, MO where family still lives there. Would love to come visit MO someday and see where my grandparents roots are! Enjoy those grandbabes! Aren't they the best!
Hugs, Maryjane Lee

Posted - Jun 07 2007 : 7:21:47 PM Welcome Shari, you'll love it here. There's so much to learn and I'm sure you have a lot to teach as well. My DH and I are retired these past 6 years and moved into our dream retirement home here in the Hills last summer and love our little 9-1/2 acres of pine forest. We have 5 kids between us (2nd time around for us) and just had our 11th grandchild a month ago. DH's brother lives in western NC - around Sparta. Where do you all plan to put down roots?
Be sure to check out all the forums - they are the most fun and I've learned so much. Also know that if I have a question, I can always come here and find out the answer. Welcome!
