Hi all, I'd love to have a chapter, I tried to start one in Savannah but everyone was too busy to get together. I am now in Bavaria Germany, Grafenwoehr to be specific. I found a chapter in K-town but that is 4+ hours away from me if there isn't any traffic. I realize its probably a shot in the dark to find enough people near me to start a chapter but I'm going to try anyway :). Is anyone out there??? Perhaps if there aren't enough people here we can start something within Germany that is mostly virtual but gets together a few times a year? (If its all people in Germany/Europe we can send things to each other through MPS for free!)
If not I guess I'll find a virtual chapter to join.

hey Sabrina,, I know you posted this a year ago... but.. are you still in Deutschland?
and if so,,, how are you doing?
I was a Army Brat,,, and we lived in Neu Ulm, Munich, Augsburg, and Heilbronn.
My Mother is from Germany and my family is still there... Aunts, cousins etc. as is my childhood BFF
I try to go back about every 3 or so years,,, was suppose to go back this year but mom's and my travel plans got derailded sue to mom's stroke... She is doing so well now so we are back on for 2016...
I hope you have had a chance to find the wonderful side of Germany.... it really is an awesome place and of course... to me the food is fabulous!

Sabrine, I think it's a marvelous idea to start a chapter. You mentioned that you live in a military base/area, are there other military wives that would be interested? Not sure how it is now, but back in the late 1950's wives of astronauts would form clubs for support. I imagine it was the same for military wives.
I read you about not being "allowed" to do anything in a regulated area. We are presently challenging the Village of Champlain (very small country town USA) as to their interpretation of "Domesticated Animals and a zoning law that states that we are allowed to to have infrastructures to house them". We are set to appear at the State Supreme Court in April.
As for gardening, containers are great. Heck, an old BBQ on wheels would work. Have fun looking for ways to have fresh produce!

Sabrina,
I myself was stationed in Germany in the mid 1980's. I had a wonderful time while I was there and took every opportunity presented to explore Germany and Europe in general. While I know exploring with children is challenging, you, and others like you, are in a unique position to broaden your children's education and experiences to include many diverse cultures. I sincerely hope you have found the beauty within Germany and are enjoying it immensely.
I lived on the economy part of the time I was there. I couldn't just go pay rent to my landlord, I had to sit down to a glass of bier and some kuchen too. My landlord kept a wonderful garden in her backyard, complete with a garden house. She grew a lot of the food they ate in that tiny space. As far as she was concerned, grass was for farm animals and she didn't have any of those. I was invited to tea one day and we had some wonderful pastries as well as coffee so strong and thick it could have eaten the bowl of the spoon you stood in it. That's how I learned about Turkish coffee.

Thank you, and yes I am trying to make the best of the situation. Moving here has been more challenging than I anticipated and I fell into a habit of complaining and am trying to turn that around and focus on being grateful for what I have and making the best with where I'm at! :)

Sabrina, what a creative woman can do with a couple of plants and her crafts is amazing. Find joy in whatever you do.
I want to thank you and your husband for the service you are doing for our country. I know it can't be easy for you or him to be so far away from home.

Sara, I don't know that I qualify as a "woman of Europe" :). I'm just a military wife who happens to be stationed here! I found out about and joined MJF a few years ago when I was living in Georgia. My mom-who I think you know-lives in Texas and is the one who told me about it (I think her sn is SpedSyl). Its a neat experience I don't know how much hands on Farmgirl type stuff I will get to do but will definitely share. I know I need to hurry up and go see if I can find nuts and fruit in the woods before its all gone! I hear there are lots of foraging options here just haven't figured out exactly where to go yet! I can't really do much at my home since its government housing and we aren't allowed to have chickens or bees and our ability to garden is very limited (we got in trouble for pulling up an ugly, useless bush to plant tomatoes and zucchini!). There are community gardens but I have to drive to them and with three kids that isn't the easiest thing to keep up with! So I'm pretty much limited to a couple plants and my crafts.

Sabrina, I'm in Texas so I can't help you find a chapter. Just wanted to say how exciting to find out that MaryJane has reached the women of Europe - I hadn't known that.
Hope you find a chapter, start one, or join a virtual one. I want to hear more about your life in Germany and what you learn about how FarmGirls go about doing things there. Through you a whole new world has opened up for me.
