Posted - May 18 2012 : 06:07:21 AM I started a new thread for this year. Here is an upcoming event.
Fire Down by the River!
Fridays June 1 and 22;
5:00-10:00 p.m.
Otsego Park
Come enjoy an evening outdoors around a fire along the mighty Maumee River. We will make corn fritters in the Dutch oven and maybe a few other treats. Bring along your own chair and bug spray, and come join us around the fire!
This is provided by the parks program.

Posted - Apr 11 2013 : 12:11:58 PM I wanted to update the chapter. Before Christmas we donated $325.00 to the local food pantry and several items.
My husband's employer donated us another $300.00 check, made out to the same food pantry, so that is a total of $625.00 in cash donations. My mother continues to volunteer at the same food pantry as well.
Just sharing the good news.

Posted - Mar 28 2013 : 06:24:39 AM Thanks Karen. Any help on tearing done our barn (and if we can get a few bucks for the wood) would be great!
I tried to sign up for a mosiac glass class (a 5 x 7 project), but I was still sick. Maybe next year.
If I see any upcoming classes around here, I will try to post them here or e-mail them out.
We just had twin bucklings born here last Friday, and a buyer is coming today to look at one. Our other goat is due in a few weeks.
Thanks for checking in! :) -Kristina

Posted - Mar 28 2013 : 05:15:36 AM Hi Kris,
Been on the computer too much this morning (esp. MJF) so I'll just put this all in one post to ya. I'll pm my email. Maybe when things settle down in your neck of the woods the chapter can be started back up?
I checked out the naturalist thing and they want an arm and a leg, but otherwise I'd LOVE to do this sort of thing as it's right up my alley. My daughter is not much of an outdoorsy kinda gal but she does like to take walks with me in parks, etc. and enjoys the bits (emphasis on 'bits')of knowledge I can pass on about wildlife.
Hubby bought a used 35 mm camera at a garage sale last summer and I bought him some film for it as part of his Valentine's Day. Am hoping to start getting some wildlife pics - mainly birds.
As for the neon floss, I would check the local JoAnn's in their Kid's Camp stuff that will be out soon. Often there are small kits for friendship bracelets, etc. that may have some neon floss you speak of and the cost should be minimal.
The clothesline....you know it's a topic near and dear to my heart! Love the pic you posted - I'd never in all my 50 years seen one attached to a silo like that. What a hoot. I sure love mine but see where the rope is getting a bit frayed but we've had it for over 3 years and it only set us back about $7.00.
K, I think that catches me up for now. I wish ya the best and hope we can stay in touch.
Bring Spring!
Karen
Oh, I meant to add that I saw an add in a country mag I get about someone who takes down old barns and reuses the wood. I will see if I can find it and pass the info on to you.

Posted - Mar 04 2013 : 06:08:42 AM Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist Training Registration deadline extended to March 15! Do you have a strong interest in your natural surroundings, a desire to sharpen your outdoor interpretation skills, and a willingness to share your knowledge with others? If so, consider becoming an Ohio State University Extension Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist.
Beginning in early April, Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist training will be offered for residents of Wood County and surrounding areas. The Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist program (OCVN) is a volunteer program which provides an extensive course in the natural sciences in exchange for a donation of volunteer hours to share your skills and knowledge with others through OCVN sponsored activities. The Wood County Park District OCVN program is a cooperative venture between Ohio State University Extension and the Wood County Park District. Posted - Mar 03 2013 : 10:30:02 AM We are about 2 hours (or more) from your area. I think there were other farmgirls in the Cleveland/Akron area who wanted a chapter or needed farmgirls. You are more Northeast, we are Northwest.
Check this page: http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Chapters/
Karen, I think we lost one member that I cannot get in touch with. I will consider simply keeping in touch via e-mail. We were never given a hen house on here.

Posted - Mar 02 2013 : 2:24:50 PM Oh, Kristine - I am sad to see our chapter end if it comes to that. Although I don't have any interest to head a chapter at this time, I sincerely appreciate the effort you've put into it.
I haven't been on MJF much but I see where you've had some rough patches. I hope things get easier for you and your family. I believe that tough times make us stronger individuals and more appreciative of the smaller things in life.
I do wish you the best!

Posted - Mar 02 2013 : 07:40:28 AM Is anyone interested in being the chapter leader for this chapter?
I will no longer be the chapter leader. If no one is interested, I will be closing this chapter in a few days.

Posted - Oct 01 2012 : 05:01:56 AM Just a quick update. I am e-mailing a woman who teaches basket weaving in the area. She may be holding a class in November. She's had surgery on her hands, so I will post if she does hold a class.
