What has happened to all the hen house chapters? I pop in every now and then to see what other chapters are doing to keep their chapter alive, and I see it is down to 8 chapters. Is it so hard to keep friendships and fun things going? I ask myself all the time, how can we keep our members involved with each other and in doing for our community? I look forward to reading and learning from you all and seeing all the things you have made and shared with us. It has taught me so much and I am always looking for new things to do and share within our local chapter. I find it a challenge to keep our members actively involved though. Is this what has happened to all the lost chapters? I know that I will always remain a farmgirl 'sister' and that thanks to MaryJane and the farmgirl connection I will always have someone here I can lean on, learn from and get an occasional hug.

I had one for musician farmgirls a long time ago but getting interested parties to join was like pulling hens teeth, and then I had a girl join up and didn't know it as I was using an email addy I hardly ever looked at and I wasn't watching as my cyber henhouse had been inactive for so long. She was upset with my not being on top of things and had no interest in pursuing it after that,I'm sorry to say- I really messed that one up.
I also got the impression back then that while some farmgirls may play an instrument, they don't consider it to be part of being a farmgirl. I hope I'm wrong on that, but that was the clear impression I got.
But I was shocked to see how few chapters there are now- I remembre when there were a lot of them! That's sad. I know things happen, and not everything works out,but I'd like to see more farmgirl chapters!

I have contacted two Michigan Chapters with no response. Not sure if they are no longer a chapter or are full. I am still interested in getting involved with a chapter so if anyone in Central Michigan is out there let me know.

I went to check in on the one I was a member of and it won't even let me log in. Ours lost steam a good while back but I was hoping to get it started again. I don't know if people just prefer to just come here or what.

I went on hiatus for awhile with my chapter because everyone in it had other issues... I understood that things happen, but some were never heard from again :( I think it depends on where you live too. It's hard to find people in MD who are committed to being in a chapter. Mine is up and going again and hopefully it continues to grow.

Hi there Shelia...not a problem, glad that you are doing ok. Are you on Facebook? You are more than welcome to join up would LOVE to have you :) Hope that all is ok. We actually had to move too.

Hi amyartgirl -- I was one of your members and the reason my "interest" had fizzled is that we moved out of state. So you can remove me from your list and sorry if you felt that I was letting your club down.

Amy the Heart of Texas Farmgirls chapter has a Facebook page and it is working well for us. You might give it a try for your group!

Hi all, I am glad that I am not alone with this subject. I was a member of a Hen House chapter but had to back out and not be a MJF Sister due to my husband losing his job.Plus our Mother Hen had to step down too. I was trying to get an in-person chapter running and had people interested, but it died off the vine. It was very difficult to get things going.

I may try a virtual chapter like on Facebook. Sorry to be down and out with this...I need some ideas and encouragemnet - thanks!

UPDATE: I started an online group on Facebook and I do find that it is a bit easier. So we will see what happens from here. Life happens and gets in the way and I so understand that after having to move to another area an hour away from where I am still working.

I agree-sadly, it can be difficult with "life" getting everyone together. Last Spring we started "The Little Henhouse on the Island" chapter here on Long Island. We met a few times, but then summer was upon us and everyone was either on vacation or couldnt make it work with the kids out of school, so FINALLY we are trying to schedule an event next month! We usually try and earn a merit badge when we meet (or shall I say a level of a merit badge).
Hopefully we will be back in full swing before long!
Smiles,

~Laurie

As the mother hen of our chapter I must say that it is a Great chapter but we have been experiencing growing pains with 15 or 16 members we do have only a handful of full time participants.. It is a challenge, but having a set time to meet has helped..We meet the second Sunday of each month at a local church and try to get together for some fun things in between.. Our meetings are centered now around "Learning something new" Some of the gals are teaching us how tos and we are enjoying the time together.. Being a Sister is so rewarding.

I had eagerly looked to see what chapters are in my area after joining last month. Unfortunately there is one or two a bit of a drive away and they are full)-: I am hopeful there will be other opportunities (-:

Have a great day!!

To be honest our chapter also has a facebook page and we seem to be there more than our henhouse.

Gail, I have had to put my chapter on the shelf due to unstable health. I tried for a while to keep a group going but kept having to cancel and I felt that it wouldn't be fair to potential members and current members to keep stringing it along.

I am not part of a hen house chapter, but I started a local one here, and I hope maybe this will give you hope...I started it last spring with my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, niece, daughter, my daughter's friend and her mother as members. Over the past two months I have gotten three requests to join! I am so ecstatic to have interest. Now I feel the pressure to keep these ladies interested and the members that are family members motivated. They seem to not take it as entirely seriously as I do, but are starting to now that we have outside interest. I am currntly working up a few "events" to keep everyone moving a little with some projects that should keep them invested in how it all turns out. I am also feeling out what everyones' interests and hobbies are so that we can implement them into what we do for fun and what we hope to do for community work. I know our group is very crafty and we think we will take our show on the road in a sense and sell some of our stuff at a few craft fairs and use the money for charity.

I see how tough it can be keeping up a group, and am nervous about it, since I know I am the anchor for our group so far. I dislike it when I lose touch, and it happened to me for the past few months. It was truly my fault, but I make it right. I guess maybe I need the pressure and this will help, but I don't want to let any of my already members down, and I don't want to disappoint prospective members, whether they decide to join or not. They are still farmgirls, chapter or not.

I'm glad I found this little thread...it's good to hear other people's frustrations are like mine, and I know I don't need to apologize really, but I feel glad to be able to unload my thoughts and worries a little. At least it's out there and less in me!

I agree with you. I used to check in and see so many, and lately there are just a few. I would also like to see what other chapters are doing. I just started a chapter, but right now I only have a few people involved.
