I am so pleased to report that the Urban Farmgirls of Minneapolis, Minnesota met last night for the first time and had a whopping good time! We had almost 20 folks on the RSVP list initially, but that was whittled down to 13 by the time the party came around ("life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans..."). But our baker's dozen of farmgirls (plus babies!) had a great time potlucking (farmgirls make awesome dishes), laughing and coming up with a year's worth of ideas for our new group! Meet the Urban Farmgirls:

Left to right
Back row: Indra
Middle row: Oscar + his mom Amy, Nicole, Kate, Terri
Front row: me, Gwyneth, Elena + her mom Amanda, Rebecca + her babe

We forgot to take the photo before a few folks left, so the "not pictureds" are: Grace + her mom Anna and another Rebecca! (And my son Jack, who slept through the whole party upstairs in his bed!)

The highlight for me was Terri bringing along some dried lavender as a hostess gift that she got from MaryJane's Farm! How sweet. She was one of the lucky ones who got to go to Farm Fair. I love lavender so much and this is very special lavender indeed! Thank you Terri!

The other highlights include amazing organic carrot cake (also from Terri!), a wonderful array of light summer dishes and salads (did I already mention how awesome Farmgirls are in the kitchen?), and of course, the camaraderie.

We have decided to meet up on the 2nd Tuesday of each month with a couple of side trips thrown in on the weekends for fun (pumpkins, farm tours, State Fair...). SO MANY IDEAS...service projects, crafts, holiday card-making, recipe swaps, and of course, potluck at each one so we can continue to enjoy each other's amazing treats! We've also set up a Yahoo group list so we can stay in touch and keep our calendar online. There are still another dozen or so farmgirls in our area who couldn't make it but want to be kept in the loop, so this should be a fun way to keep the momentum up.

I'm so excited about this Farmgirl Chapter!!

Kate with a K - I wish you lived closer too!!!

The necklace is from Arcata, CA. My Dad bought it for me at an Art Sale when they came to visit (I used to live out there). I just pulled it out again this summer after a few years buried in the bottom of my jewelry box. Seems I can make it "go" with anything!

Thanks, thanks!

love, c :)

Thanks Catherine=o] I am so phsyched that you had so many new farmgirls there. i got an email from Terri too late with a nice offer to ride share. She is only a few miles from me and yet we haven't offificially met, though she is such a sweetie. I will definately be at the next outing and look forward to seeing all the Urban Farmgirls soon. If you ever get to a high school football game let me kow. I am in Fridley all the time as my son goes to Totino- Grace and we have many games there. Let me know if I can be of help with your planning or organizing. I would be happy to help out. You all have such great ideas. For hobbies i sew dolls( thanks to frannies class) and sew aprons, paint, garden, make jams and butters (thanks to Is) and pretty much anything crafty. i will soon be making painted floor canvases. I hope to market these if I can find the right canvas supplier. Aren't farmgirls the greatest. If you want to take a look see at my farm go to http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2230. See y'all soon!

Hi Beth! I'm so glad to hear that it was just dates mixed up and nothing serious - we missed you! Kids in sports can be a handful...I only have a babe, but know that my life is about to get VERY hectic! :)

I'm thrilled that you will be able to attend in the future and can't wait to meet you in person!

I'm glad you were able to get together to meet each other and have such an awesome time. What cute babies too! Lucky that some of you live so close to each other. I'm wondering if there's a farmgirl chapter in the NH area?? How would I find out? What a wonderful way to bond with people who share the same dreams.

Catherine - HOW FUN!!!!! I'm so happy that things went so well for you all - but really, how else could they go for a group of farmgirls? You all look so lovely - just glowing from the good food, good times and new friends.

Congratulations!!!!! I can't wait to hear what you gals will be up to next!

XOXO, Libbie

Hi Catherine-
I am so mad at myself for getting my dates mixed up. Life is so crazy right now with 2 boys playing football and my daughter playing soccer. I promise to be at the next meeting though. And would love to host if not this fall then this spring out here on the farm. I have joined the yahoo group so will wait to hear what is next for us. And I must say way to go- you guys have already got so many ideas.

Most of us live only a few blocks or maybe a few miles away from each other, but Terri came from 40 miles away! She's one dedicated farmgirl. She and Beth (celebrate2727) live in the same town (we missed you, Beth!).

I just can't wait until our Farmgirl State Fair visit later this month. Minnesota has an AWESOME State Fair! The 'girls are getting together on a weekday morning to go visit the animals and the crafts before the crowds and without our antsy husbands. I'll definitely go back with Dan though - it's where we had our first date so we go every year...:)

Oh! I forgot to mention that I didn't plan anything for the night, following the advice of Farmgirl Chapter Leaders who have gone before me! The 'girls just started talking and introducing and laughing and having fun and that was pretty much the whole shindig. We did have a pseudo "agenda" just to list out some ideas and take notes on what else we want to do. We probably spent the last 20 minutes of the party in "meeting mode," picking dates, etc.

I also forgot to mention that I made Tina Michelle's Taste of Florida cake...and forgot to serve it! Oh, that's what happens when you have too much fun at your own party. I did send pieces home in paper bowls with saran wrap for folks though. Also, the door prize (sticker under the plate, except we almost forgot about checking plates too!) went to Terri. It was an original Aunt Jenny creation: a little pillow that says "You can't keep a Farmgirl down!"

Everyone got a folder with their chapter certificate, bumper sticker, sample journal page and a few other fun things.

Fun, fun, fun!!
