Hello!
I'd love to meet others with the farmgirl connection in my area. My goal is to learn from others. I want to network with others who enjoy the homesteading arts. It's hard, my friends think I'm goofy for wanting to learn more about knitting, sewing...you know all the fun stuff.
I did create the Lee County Basic in the Farmgirl chapter.

My grandma was a farmer and a famous quilter, canning, cook...my mother wanted noting to do with this. So I guess the passion skipped a generation, except I need to learn from others and want to hang on to traditions.

Let me know if your close by the Lee County, Illinois area and your interested!

Sandra,
Savanah is due west of here - a little over an hour away, and Galena would be up North from there.
Savanah is right on the Illinois/Iowa border, on the Mississippi River (you'll have the best of both
states). But it would be somewhat of a trek to Oregon where we are, and perhaps a little further
South to Rock Falls/Sterling way. I think you'd find something pretty nice (price-wise) in the
Savanah area, but Galena gets to be pricey, I think because its a touristy area - and I can see why
it has character, old age character, and its a very very pretty area for sure.
We (dh & I) too like all those homestead things - can't wait for tomatoes to ripen up so we can get to canning
them - just love them in chili in the winter time, and we've made some great vegetable juice too from
them. I don't think its ever too late. I'm in my late 50's but there's still alot of stuff I want to do
and perhaps it won't be on a grand scale as if I were younger and full of pep and energy, but it will
surely be something. We have 6 1/2 acres 5 miles out in the country, cornfields all around and can't
see my neighbors, a nice size garden, a zillion stars at night, beautiful moons, crickets and tree
frogs singing us to sleep, and roosters crowing us awake in the mornings. If I could have only just this, I'd
so rather be out in the country than in the city any day. I have chickens, geese and dogs, a peacock,
and am thinking of having goats, too, soon. Do you have relatives here?

Well...I'll be!!! I am trying to get BACK to Northern, Illinois! Whereabouts are you gals? I saw Rock Falls...I'm trying to move up by Galena/Savannah area when I sell my house here. Funny thing about Ogle County....there's a couple down here that moved here last year and that county was named after his realtives....needless to say...their last name is Ogle! they just moved here last year. Small world really!
Jennifer....I'm in the same boat as you...I'm retired sort of....and my mother was a career woman and so was I but I always LOVED doing all the homestead stuff and it did seem to skip a generation! I always wanted to farm but no one would teach me and my family wasn't the one with the farmland....I hope it's not too late for me! LOL!

Hello Jennifer. I'm in Ogle county. I saw this before but getting together is tough for me
at this time as I am a care-giver. I just can't commit to anything now. The only thing I
really do on a regular basis is go to the Oregon public Library on Monday evenings at 6:30 pm
for an hour and meet with some very wonderful knowledgeable ladies who have been knitting and
crocheting for yeeeeeaaaars and are willing to teach their skills, free of charge - for the love of the art, to
anyone who comes and wants to learn. So I am learning to knit, and I have the support of a knowledgeable
person to help me thru the stages of knitting patterns and I'm making my first sweater. If this sounds like
something you'd like to try, come on over and sit and chat with us and bring any questions you have!
I like the idea of a cyber type chapter - which if I joined, would make it easier for me as I can't leave home
for long periods of time. And a line that just keeps going is a good start for knitting and crocheting.

It's been a while since I had done this post and some time since I"ve been online. I had taken a new job that took up a lot of my time, however that has been a change in my schedule and life is starting to get back to normal!
I am interested in meeting up with Mueller to learn about spinning and I'll have to get a hold of you. My knitting and crocheting abilities consist of a line that just keeps going. But I'm happy I can do that.
I've thought about doing a Sauk Valley Farmgirls Chapter and meet discuss projects on line and then meet face to face now and then. Any thoughts?

Jennifer, I just saw this post.
For Fiber related stuff (spinning, knitting, weaving et al) I host a "Fiber Get Together" the first Thursday of every month. Not a lot of folks (yet!), but I'm not giving up!! 7:00 at my place Sept 7.

Hope to see you there!

Hi Jennifer, yes, I'm a chapter of 2 right now, but we can do it! Even if it's just a small group, we can be included in things. This is a wonderful group, and I have learned so much, and felt very welcomed! Good luck with it! I look forward to hearing about your group as it grows!
