Hello Farm Sisters!
I am writing to let you all know that the "Little Hen House on the Island" here on Long Island,NY had our first official get togther yesterday May 14th 2011. It was such a marvelous day! There were 6 of us that met at our local ecology site. We all brought a dish to share, hmmm lets see...there were deviled eggs, macaroons, stuffed grape leaves, cranberry orange scones, cheese and crackers, edenamme, kettle corn, veggies and dip...well lets just say we could have fed a small army! We also had homemade iced tea and several varieties of hot tea. We chatted and shared stories, and then we got down to business and made the chandelier in MJ's outpost section of the idea book. We let our creativity flow- sometimes "making do" between wrestling the wire and wire cutters- and we ended up with many different interpretations of what the chandelier should look like- all I might add- beautiful! I think each of us ended up with an original work of art that will certainly light the way this summer in our backyards- not to mention that we all earned a badge for doing so!
We had so much fun- and are looking forward to our next get together which is tenatively scheduled for June 25th.
Pictures will follow shortly! Thank you to my fellow farmgirls for joining our little chapter- its so nice to be a part of such a lovely group of like minded ladies, and I feel Blessed to be able to say we are sisters!
Farmgirl Hugs,

~Laurie

Wow Connie, having just read your plans for the future... they sound just like mine!! We have been looking for property for about 2 years now. We've been looking in the Catskill area. There are some great properties, but we would like the prices to come down a bit more! If I could do it all over again, we would have sold our house during that insane real estate boom and moved upstate! Hindsight is always 20/20!
We have a great Chapter meeting planned for next month and we would LOVE if you joined us!

Thanks Connie- I see the pricing now!
Yes I would say if you are about 15 min from Riverhead then you are about 35-40 minutes from Teresa and I. We both live quite close to Jamaica Ave!. How long have you been in Cutchogue now? I just LOVE it out there! Would love to live there!
If you want to send me your email privately I will forward to you the email I just sent to all of the other girls in the chapter, showing what we are trying to put together for February.
Have an awesome weekend!

it's very exciting to know your girls are so close. I use to live in medford on jamaica avenue and commuted to cutchogue to work, i'd say it was about 40 minutes. I am about 15 minutes from riverhead. Laurie if you go to the link for the cookset and scroll down, you'll see prices for members and non members. being a member only means you get it cheaper. Would love to meet you girls soon!

Hello Connie in Cutchogue!!!!
We would just love to meet up with you! I read your "modern day Laura" blog and really enjoy it! So glad you got back to posting! Looks like you got some good Christmas gifts! LOVE that open fire cooking set! In fact I went on and couldnt find pricing on it from your link- showed something about being a "member"?
Anyhoo.... together with Teresa we will keep you posted on our next "get together". We started out last April/May with a bang, then summer came and everyone was "busy" and on vacation etc, and then we kinda fizzled out.
Its a new year and I would love to get back to meeting!
Stay tuned!
Smiles,

~Laurie

We live on Long Island which means if you go North, South or East you'll hit water but if you go West, you'll hit NY City with it's bright lights, crowded streets, museums and the American Girl place.

I never heard of a traveling journel, please share?

Hi Laurie and all! This is pretty fun chatting with farmgirl sisters across the states! Our chapter has a mix of gals in the sisterhood and not... some are interested in earning badges and some not. I need to get crackin on earning some myself and inspiring that within our chapter. So what's it like on your side of the states? I was thinking it would be fun for our chapter to do the traveling journal...has your chapter thought about doing that? I participated in the Farmgirl Mail Art swap last year and did a quilt block swap..both were extremely fun to be a part of. Our chapter is the NW Country Angels, there are a few pics and some stories if you want to check it out here on Chapter Chatter.

Take Care and you all have a Farmgirl Fabulous week!

Happy Memorial Day Lisa! Thanks for checking in on us farmgals over here across the country from ya! Yes we had a blast making our chandeliers, and as Pilar said- "artistic interpretation" was used to the fullest extent! Lol...
We have our next meeting scheduled for 6/25 but are not sure what we are going to do yet (we try and aim for earning a badge at our get togethers. I'm sure we will come up with something...
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi Pilar,

"artistic interpretation" is great! They are all more individual that way :) So much fun!

Well, it's been a long fun family day here...time to turn in.

I hope you have a farmgirl fabulous rest of your Memorial Day weekend!! So nice to visit with a farmgirl sister so far away!

Hi Lisa,

Hello from Long Island, NY. I have not made the can luminaries yet but I'm collecting the cans for them. Before starting the chandelier make sure you read the directions very well. We did not and that's why each chandelier looks so "different". I like to say that this is an "artistic interpertation" of a chandelier. :)

I just want to say hello from the Northwest Country Angels here in Arlington Washington (the state ) I loved reading all of your posts about your first "official" chapter meeting, and seeing the pics of your creations!! They look farmgirl fabulous!! I'm going to have to get my Outpost book out and look at that one to share with our chapter. I might just have to make up a sample one to show them....In other words I cant wait to make mine. Have you tried the cute luminaries made from tin cans? The one where you fill the can with water/ freeze it/ then make a pattern using a nail and a hammer?

Well, Take care!!
Sincerely,
Farmgirl Sister # 2360

Oh my Goodness, I cannot stop smiling from our wonderful chapter meeting! It was so much fun! Yes, people looked at us funny and thought we were "selling our wares", but we had a BLAST! Here are our pictures...

A lovely assortment of goodies...

Getting our working materials ready..

Thank you Marian for cutting that fencing.. (she suffered a few scratches!) Actually, Band-aids were needed by almost all of us!

Hmm.. now what do we do??!! Consulting MaryJane's Ideabook...

Smile pretty for the camera!!

The finished product!
