Posted - May 17 2010 : 08:30:26 AM Hello all!
Our first Chapter meeting will be this Saturday. I am so excited, and I have so many interested women! Anyway, I have asked everyone to bring an item (Big girl show-and-tell, lol) which represents a hobby or craft that they like to do. Does anyone have any other ideas for what to do during our first meeting? This is our 'Getting to Know You' meeting, as many of the women are people I have never met in person :0)
I will also have door prizes, and homemade snacks!
Thanks, ladies!

Posted - May 24 2010 : 09:26:16 AM Thanks, Vera!
Well, I think we all had fun! We began by going around the circle with introductions, and while we did that, we ate homemade apple cake, cupcakes, and deviled eggs. Then, we did our 'show and tell'. We had: 2 quilters, a photographer, a baker, 2 'newbies', a knitter, and a writer. I did a show and tell of my apron I made.
After our 'social circle', we had a door prize drawing for vintage address/photo books, a farm wife book, and two gardening kits. Wow, 2 hours really fly by!!! Most of the group had already seen my farm, so I gave Vera the in-depth tour, lol.
We planned for our next meeting which will be at one of our Farm Girl's organic farm, and from there, we are going to a local winery! :0)

Posted - May 22 2010 : 6:21:14 PM Just want to say that Ms Doolittle did just fine! This was the first time I met her in person & in fact I only knew one of the other women there.
There were ladies who *do it all*; a couple who have tried it all; and a couple who are novices in many of these areas. I think all felt welcomed, accepted and most importantly LIKED! I liked them all!
Thanks, Amanda for organizing this!

Posted - May 22 2010 : 10:02:43 AM Ms. Doolittle, I can't wait to hear how about your first meeting! I made copies of the Farmgirl Certicates and putting together welcome packs.... I have to say that I'm a little bit overwhelmed at all the possibilities spinning around in my head. I'm trying to narrow things down so I can focus on getting across what the "Farmgirl Heart" is and what we can accomplish together. Today I clean house and our 4 year old granddaughter is coming over to help me- we are going to bake cookies for tomorrow. I'll check back later to see how things went for you-- I'm sure it will be farmgirl fabulous!

Posted - May 20 2010 : 9:09:00 PM Hello from Arlington, Washington.
Our first Chapter meeting is this weekend too! Sunday afternoon! msdoolittle, I love you idea of the Big girl show and tell. I wish I would have thought of that. I myself, amd trying to come up with what to do at our maiden meeting. I decided today that I'm going to get out some of my heirlooms, I have a quilt that my grandma made, I'll display that and some other items too. Have little door prizes to greet the farmgilrs and I'm putting together welcome kits so to speak. I think I'll start the meeting by giving a little over view of what being a Farmgirl means ( condition of the heart) and why I am doing this. Talk about some of the possibilities and get everyone participating in that.(alot of them are not familiar with Mary Jane but love what they have heard) We are going to make kitchen dishtowel angels ( I did a practice run,,, only takes about 30 min to make) Everyone just seems to be looking forward to the time together! So I'm anxious to see what happens. I know we will just have fun... and the possibilities are endless when a group of women put their minds and hearts together, right?
Have fun!

Posted - May 17 2010 : 3:09:53 PM For our first meeting, last month, I had everyone bring something for potluck. I told them to make it easy, something they like. Then, we sat around my dining table to eat a casual meal. I had everyone go around the table and introduce themselves and where they were from. For dessert and coffee, we sat more comfortably and all worked on our "lap work", whatever they brought, knit, crochet, etc. By the end of the evening, we all felt like old, comfortable friends!
Good luck! Have fun!
