Calling all NY Farmgirls!!!!

We are getting our act together by having a start up meeting!

First; we are making a map of where we all live, and are opening the door for suggestions on where to meet.

Lets all Spring ahead, no matter where you are in NY we welcome you! Time Travel is possible so don't say you can't when you really want to.

I sumitted a message in another section of this farmgirl chatter. About putting aside the meeting for now and starting up a henhouse, just in case you missed it before I'm giving this thought for you. I have not one clue how to start a henhouse.

Does anyone have a date they would like to try to meet in August?

The great spring weather is making for earlier than usual gardening! It is fun to get out in the dirt this early in the year! Anyone else taking a gamble and doing some planting?

Peace,
Lida

good morning Cathy and other sisters!
Gardengazer is from Branchport, Cathy. Actually I'm on a hill 7 miles from Branchport, 8 miles from both Naples and Prattsburgh. We live in town of Italy but it doesn't have a post office.

Letchworth is such a beautiful park, I vote for that to use for a meeting place too.

I have lots of little plants coming up in my wintersowing containers.

Everyone have a great weekend! Do something for a badge.

YES to wintering over, I have had "volunteers" come back and produce another crop. sometimes any root crop will do that in the exact right conditions. Usually, the condition in my garden is "not to wet" I have pure clay up here and this year I am waving the white flag in truce, I'm setting up four raised beds, this year and plan to do more every year. I will probably have raised beds dotted all over my three acres of lawn. I am not fighting that clay anymore.

Hello Neighbors,
So, it looks like we have a place- Letchworth Park. Now, for the difficult part: when! There isn't likely to be a time that works for everyone.

How is late April, early May?

Gardening question- apparently I did not harvest all of my carrots and now they are greening up again. Can carrots wiinter over if it is a mild winter like this one was? A few stray onions and Swiss chard also wintered over.

Peaace,
Lida

Hi Gals, I seemed to have let a week go by without a peek in this part of my world. LETCHWORTH PARK yippee skippee, I live close enough that I go every year, but could go every week. I am for that. Annie, we have 2 in Dansville, I do not think Pam navigates here to much but she emails me. Also GARDENGAZER emails me and is in Mendon, (correct me if I'm wrong GARDENGAZER) I have a great Letchworth Park story, or at least my Dad does, he took my mother there on a first date, the trains were running then and they were up on the bridge over the gorge when the train came along, no time to get off, so he gathered her close and by the time the train was past he knew he had found his true love!

Hello Girls,
I cast my vote for Letchworth State Park. I love that place!

Peace,
Lida

Well, so far we've got 2 in Rochester, 1 in Buffalo, 1 in North Rose, 1 in Dansville, and 1 in Branchport. Those places are all between 1 and 2 hours apart, with Buffalo and North Rose on the far east and west extremities. Maybe we could meet at Letchworth State Park? Or the Genesee Country Museum?

Hi NY Gals, Lets collect ourselves and make a map, getting together this summer will be super, a park sounds great. I am excited about earning badges. Also, a good conversation that I would like to chat about, "can we live Green?"

Hey Shirley, you are too great!!!!! The song is the very one my father taught us girls, we would spend a lot of time making up different kinds of versus. My sister used to say "she had a head of hair just like a grizzley bear". This song is why I called us the NY Corkers.

Thank you so much for writing.....

When I was in Girl Scouts, we sang a campfire song that I have no idea where it came from.....it went like this....

My gal's a corker,
she's a New Yorker,
I give her anything to keep her in style
She has a pair of eyes
just like the blue blue skies
That is where all my money goes....
On make-up
That's where all my noney goes.

It had lots of verses, but I thought of it as soon as I saw your club name!

Go New York Corkers!

Another Rochesterian! Hi, Lida! I'm not sure how often I could get together in other towns, but I'm sure I could make it occasionally at least. Please count me in for info too.

Ladies, I am new and had to do a search to find my own forum. Forgive me. Happily, I joined the Sisterhood #1300 and I am eager to start my badges. About getting together, we need ideas. Does anyone belong to a certain henhouse? Should we start one?

I am from Buffalo, New York and I would be so willing to get in on this; perhaps this summer we can get together say at a park that we can agree on and have a picnic!

Cathy- There's actually quite a few of us NY girls on here.... It would be great to have a chapter of our own! Actually I'd be happy with a get together every now and then! ;)
I'm right along the Lake Ontario shoreline, about halfway between Syracuse and Rochester.
