I'm trying to come up with welcome packets for new members!
Certificate, bumper sticker and of course the sister hood pamplet...but, I'm adding an apron pattern, some cute buttons on a string and a packet or two of heirloom garden seeds and a couple of my favorite recipes on cards!
Any one else do this with their chapter?
Any cute ideas?
This is being so much fun thinking up what to add to the little treasure troves

Hello Farmgirls,

I have several friends that have been after me to get a Farmgirl Chapter started- they've been after me for over a year. We have gotten together a few times for crafting- lunch and alot of fun chatting. I love my group of farmgirl friends. I finally think I'm ready to get the chapter up and running officially- My good friend Dee and I got together last night to brainstorm some ideas. We plan to roll out the chapter in May- I absolutely love hearing all of your thoughts and ideas for getting started.

Hi Ladies,

I am contemplating knitting dish-cloths to add to my new member kits. I need some more ideas though...

My second meeting is this Friday and 15 ladies have rsvp already! We are having a salad, bread, dessert potluck and talking about Square Foot Gardening. We are also doing a craft: making flower pins to wear! I can't wait! I'm trying to get welcome kits ready for the 3 ladies who are going to be official members this Friday! Do you all have a special ceremony? I think it might be kinda fun to make a big deal about it!

Annika, I love your idea about bags for new members! I love it! I started a chapter in January, so we have had three meetings so far, but I may just go back and make little bags for my two farmgirls anyway! I only have two! :-) Then I can give them out to all the new farmgirls we acquire along the way! What great ideas you ladies all have!

It is so amazing how MJF brings us all together! I love the apron wearing idea for the first meeting! I am making a main dish, and asking everyone to bring something easy to share, and if anyone has knitting, jewelry making, any kind of "lapwork" to bring it. I have subscribed to this forum, so I will post you all as soon as our first meeting happens. Annika good luck with your first meeting!

Hi ladies!

I am just starting a chapter too! I had my first meeting last night and had 4 ladies attend and we had a fun time! We wore aprons, told our story about how we acquired our aprons and if we wear them regularly. I told them about Mary Jane and the sisterhood and showed them her book and all my magazines. They all took the subscription cards! It was cute! They loved it! We had a lemon cake for dessert (Barefoot Contessa recipe) because I am so ready for sunny happy days of spring! We talked about how each of us thought of ourselves as farmgirls or not. Then I talked about what it means to be a farmgirl a little bit. The last thing we did was to make a notecard using some of my apple stamps. I told them that being a farmgirl sister was sharing life with each other and doing special things like sending a note to someone you haven't seen in a while or just want to say hello in a personal way. Then I had them make book marks for themselves so they can keep their place in all their farmgirl reading they'll be doing! That was it! Can't wait for our next one!

I am waiting to get my packet too, so I'm sure I'll be more inspired when I get those things in the mail for creating a welcome packet. I'd love to bounce off ideas with you guys!

I've named ours Palouse Prairie Girls =) You are more than welcome to follow our blog and we can share ideas! I think that starting a blog gives everyone a place to visit to see Chapter updates and projects in their own time and to post their own updates and ideas, or if they are all members of the MJF Sisterhood, start a hen house!

Annika, I named our chapter "Connecticut Simpler Life Sisters". What did you name yours? I am so looking forward to our first get together, which will be in April. (I wanted time to get everyone together, get the packet, etc). I've always wanted to start a knitting circle, but not everyone knits. I've been in a book club, but sometimes the pressure of reading a book (especially one you have no interest in) can take away from the fun. I have met lots of people in my town, but to get together with women who love the same things is going to be so much fun!

Kelly, hi there! I'm excited for you!, We are meeting for the first time this Sunday! I'm a little nervous but mostly excited to have fellow farm girls to share things with...I think since none of us can wait for garden time, that we are mostly going to be chatting about farm and garden!

Annika,
You seem to be doing well with your Chapter, I love your ideas! I have finally had interest in my Chapter after 2 years. I just don't know how to go about getting started. Did you have a first meeting? What did you all do? Your help would be great! Thanks

All those ideas sound great but I want to ask a question. As being a new person to the mag and the site. Jan sign up this year. Is there some place to talk over and about some of the mags. articles. They are so good and I know that there are others out there who have thought about what it would be like in an Amish community. Some one who went and left could answer so many questions. That way we do not put the person on the spot by email them etc. Thanks with this all said I will be sending in my hen house dues soon. Love all Lilly
