Posted - Jan 31 2009 : 11:15:28 AM Do you have to start with beginner?
For example: Sew Wonderful.
I already have a sewing basket with everything in it, and I can already sew the seams by hand and machine, but would love to sew a Bakeover Takealong. But that's the Expert badge already.
And we can't submit things we already have right?
There's so many I've already done or am doing (like compost, etc.). So where do you join in if you're already doing it? Just the things you've never done before at beginner level?

Posted - Jan 31 2009 : 9:50:55 PM Yes, Submit as a merit badge application, the applications are posted http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=44 and farmgirls can read, and see what is being done and learn how to do it.

Posted - Jan 31 2009 : 8:46:19 PM You mean submit it as a merit badge application? Do folks read those somewhere?
Or just post i the forums, like tutorials?
I'm not sure I understand what you meant by that. Thanks!
Loved your Farmgirl U video BTW!

You have such good ideas! Isn't it funny how we can think through other's problems but not our own.

Posted - Jan 31 2009 : 4:48:05 PM I bet if there are some badges where you are routinely doing the lower levels and are ready to take it to the next step and honestly can't think of a way to do the beginner level requirements (say the whole community is composting) then you could always submit your badge application with an explanation of why you skipped the first two. Or perhaps one way you could get the word out is by making a nice tutorial on your blog?

Posted - Jan 31 2009 : 4:26:15 PM Thanks. That's quite a help. There are a few I can't do here even if I'd like to - our desert compost bins still can't sustain worms in our climate, and we're not allowed animals on the property - I really want goats!
But your advice gives me a lot of ideas of how to help or give to others and I really like that. Thanks again!

Posted - Jan 31 2009 : 3:12:55 PM The idea is to start from beginner and work your way up, so you could maybe make a new sewing basket to give to a friend or to barter here on the forum, you could also sew something to show you know the seams etc-
If you already compost- have you tried worm farming? Most of the badges have several suggestions or criteria per level, so if you already do one, perhaps you could explore the other. Or if you are already a master at that particular badge- for example we use green cleaners- teach someone how to do the badge.
I hope that helps?
