I am going to be starting a new group in my area and I am wondering what types of activities you gals do?

Also do you have a set agenda that you follow for meetings so that your gatherings run smoothly or do you just meet to share stories and sort of just go with the flow for the day?

We used to have a group in my neighborhood but it is no longer active. Surprisingly I found out that one of the old members was an gal I already know. So she filled me in on a little bit of why the group stopped meeting. So I really need and want this new group to shine. So any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Rene!

I am really getting excited. I read the book Girl Group Confidential by Jennifer Worick and got some great ideas for starting a group from there as well.

I think that going through the merit badges is a great idea. I started doing that and I have contacted a couple ladies in town who are more than willing to come and do demos and teach a little on a few things.

My invites for the ladies I have chosen to ask to join right off the bat and a couple that have actively seeked membership are just about ready to go out in the mail. Then we will see what happens from there.

Have you found that or do you feel there are better days and times than others to have your meetings?

Christina,
I have been going through the list of things that one can do to earn badges and getting the ideas from there...Then if there is someone in my area who does that specific thing I invite them to be a guest speaker.....(And then if they arent a frmgirl, I hope they are by the time they leave :).....

Thanks Alee!

I think I really thrive with a combo of the two as well!

I think it depends on your group dynamic. If everyone in the group is more of a regimented type personality that really likes order and structure, you might be best off if you have a set schedule to follow. But if you and your friends are more of a "fly by the seat of your pants" type group, then maybe just inviting them over and having coffee and treats to nibble on would be enough.

I kind of like a mixture between the two. I like saying "Okay so lets bring our (name the project to work on) and we'll work on that while we talk" Then we can talk about that last meeting for a little bit to see what people liked or didn't like, then we can talk about things we want to do (fund raisers, charity work etc) and then we can just chatter away and have fun.

I think if you are planning on getting some stuff done like charity work or fund raising, then you have to have a little time to talk it over, otherwise the organizer has to spend a lot of time on the email and phone!
