Anyone know of some fun ice breaker games or activities I could use for our first meeting? There are several women who won't know anyone there, and I want to make everyone as comfortable as possible. C'mon all you experienced chapter leaders, share your first meeting tips!

Thanks for all the great ideas! Mima!! How are you? You must email me and tell me how the rest of your trip was. We do have a great chapter going, up to more than 30 ladies already! Hope things are going great for you. :)

Emme,
I'm glad the ice breaker worked out. My friend has used this at several different parties and it's always a hit! J

A couple of good ice breakers to get people talking about themselves.

Tell three things about yourself that people may not know, but only two are true, and the other is made-up. Everyone else has to guess which item is not true. It really gets people talking about their accomplishments or unusual interests, and can be pretty hilarious.

If you have a larger group, you can split into pairs for a few minutes. After about five-ten minutes of discussion, each person in the pair has to introduce the other person to the group. So that includes 1) full name, 2) where they live, 3) why they are here or what they want to get out of the group, 4) what they really like about themselves, and 5) something that people may not know or realize about them. It's great for listening skills, and let's people share something positive and interesting about themselves.

Emme,
Iknow your first meeting has come and gone, but ice Breakers are always fun.. One that we have done and that is popular is a form of "whats my line".. as the ladies enter.. have them write something down about themselves that others may not know... Have one of the gals read them one by one... asking the gals to "vote" on who it is...........you find out some very "fun" facts about each other :)

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I used the famous people one today at the meeting(which was a great one by the way, Judith!) and I'll use the baby picture one next time!

There is a very easy one where you take the names of famous people. You can use a them, like famous authors, movie stars (and you can choose your decade, like the 40s, 50s, 60s, current, etc) or politicians, whatever would work with your group...for FarmGirls, hmmm, let's see...books about farmers, I'm blanking here, all I can come up with is "Old MacDonald had a Farm..." but you get the picture. You write a name on a nametag and then put it on your guest's back, and they have to guess who they are. You can only ask questions about "your" person that can be answered with a Yes or No. So, I could ask, am I a woman? am I alive now? am I fictional? am I a writer? am I a movie star? am I a singer? am I well known in Europe? did I write a book? and this gets people talking to each other, and then usually others try to give hints...which sometimes help and sometimes don't...but the aim is to know your guests and then don't make it too hard that no one can figure anything out. Like European monarchs from the 16th century...Have Fun!!!

Actually, we did this fun thing at work recently (we are just a chapter of two here in the Connecticut/New York area - so we get together to cook and cross stitch, etc, no ice-breaking needed). But at work, we had an administrative assistant workshop and there were lots of new faces so we needed an ice-breaker of sorts. We asked all the gals to bring in a baby picture (one of the other girls enlarged them, but if you have a small group, probably not necessary) and we put them up on a wall and we all had to guess whose baby picture matched up with which person. It was so much fun! It was cute, it made for lots of laughter and fun and then people started to talk where they grew up, where they were from, etc.
