Our new farmgirl chapter would like to do something for our local food bank. Have any chapters done something in the past that we could use for inspiration? Thanks!

You're awesome Corinne! I have a son-in-law and a nephew-in-law and two nephews that went there. They said they wouldn't trade that experience for the world. One of them is back there noa, a LT in the airforce.
Anyway, I am sure you already knew that but I have seen their pictures of the kids and people recieving donations and know just how grateful they are. Oh, what a blessing people can be to each other.

I used to belong to the "Shepherds of Good Hope" in Canada, and they run both at canteen for the homeless (with food donation from people, gov associations and supermarkets)and a holiday program which would match a sponsor with a family in need registered with the Social services . The sponsor, usually another family, would provide a full Christmas dinner for the family they were matched with, adding small gifts along with the food. It was a great programm.
One year an anonymous person delivered 200 bags to the shelter, each one beautifully wrapped, filled with personal items as dental paste, comb, shampoo, along with muffler, mitts and socks. They came both is men and women sizes, with a card for each recipient wishing them a good holiday. What a sight.
In Kuwait this year, we are collecting used socks, coats and gloves for the street workers and the maids, it is quite cold in winter here and they have only the coveralls given by the gov and most of the time, wear only sandals, or their sponsor pay only for a housedress. Last year the program "HOPE" had enough items to winter dress 2000 of them this year we are aiming at more than the double.

Beth is right about collecting can goods, etc...especially as we approach the holiday season and they serve more families. We did this for a ladies paralegal group I used to belong to.
At least in this area, they're always looking for volunteers to serve, or help stock or cleaning detail.
You might just call and say, "hi, we have a group of ___ folks that would like to help in anyway we can--what do you need most? $$$ donations, physical help, tangible donations????" There's usually a laundry list to follow!
Let us know what you end up doing--
Personally, we have a program here in town called Be Concerned. I volunteer every year, and donate to the "store". They collect all year long dry/canned goods, costume jewelry, clothing, socks and underwear, personal items andclose out items from stores, etc...and 3 weeks before Christmas, each family pays $15.00, and can "purchase" 2 items from each station, except for groceries, where it's almost unlimited. It's a very neat program, and I really love meeting the people--last year I worked the "jewelry counter" and it was so sweet how many men came and purused the items for their wives, mothers, etc...

I can think of several things Kimberly.
An easy idea would be to bring canned goods to your meeting every month to donate to the food shelf.
Some food banks/organizations need help bagging things up for meals so you could spend a day doing that.
Sometimes a food bank will have a food drive at a local grocery store. You could volunteer to help out and also meet new farmgirls while you are there.
I participated in a fun run (3K) and it raised money for the local food bank. A group could do that as well.
Maybe your area food bank serves meals or delivers to the elderly in town. I am sure they always need help with that too. Or even serving meals at a soup kitchen.
