hi girls, anyone out there use silicone cookware? i got some on a real good buy at canadian tire 5 pieces for only $15.00 and i really do like it. i am from the old school, i do prefer most of my oldies, but i have to say, this stuff is great. the baking just flops right out, no problems. washes great too. and easy storage you can fold it in two, wow what will they think of next? lol~ waiting to hear from some who may have some, or may have used it? later jo!

i thought love was all you needed? courage is needed too!

I have no bakeware. I have spatulas and a basting brush! The brush is nice the spatulas are to cause they get every last drop out of the bowl! :) The bakeware...just seems weird I'm a young gal' with an old school mama so maybe that's why lol!

I only have spatulas but I'd think you wouldn't need any oil or grease. Supposedly nothing is supposed to stick to them so why bother?

I got some bakeware with no instructions. Do you oil them or grease them first? Or just pour in the batter and go for it?

Yes the silicone thing that has the thick bristles like the size of spaghetti is a basting brush. They also have basting paddles as well. I got my set for a dollar at the Dollar Tree store. They work great!

hi girls well i will have to get one of those brushes too now, i saw something that looked like a basting brush that must have been what it was. looked like little sprigs of spagethi? on the end of it? is that what ii is? never even questioned about it just saw it and figures it did look like a basting brush tee hee! the most of the silicone pan i use is that bunting one for carrott cake. don't seem to have much use for the rest of them they are easy to clean though i found. tlty. have a good easter xoxo jo

Yes, I DO love my basting brush, that I am using a lot. And mine is neon green too (they didn't have a pink one at the time, lol)
Easier to clean too!!

I want to try the brush now! I was always leery of those silicone brushes but I hate when the bristles of my regular brushes fall off. That would be great if they stayed put!
I do have some of the silicone mats with little 2oz size molds for individual portions. I pour panna cotta in them, let them set up then freeze them. Once frozen, the panna cotta pops right out and has the shape of the mold. It thaws out pretty quickly too!
I have never baked any cakes in them though.

Oh yeah, I have that oven mit too...but it scares me! I haven't tried it yet.

What I love is the basting brush!! No more nasty bristles coming off while you baste - and if one did I would notice since it is neon green. Also love the spatulas that you can use to stir pots on the stove.

i have the bunting pan i think it is called had the hole in the middle like angle food cake pan? made a nice carrott cake i think it takes getitng used to from the old school here too, but they are fun and make some things really tasty.
xmas right about the corner eh? anyone ready for that yet. oh my! i am makeing wreths and well, just beat to a snot, lol! gotta get some rest sometime soon, lol! brrrrr cold and high winds here today tlty. have a good day! jo

Same here with the loaf pans: don't hold the shape, the loaf I mean. It is too wide in the middle, and sometimes that makes the loaf too gooey to even eat. Nope no fan at all. I prefer the old fashioned ones, lol

I have an oven mitt that I do like and a pan grabber, a small sort of mitt just for the top of the fingers to grab a hot pan.
And guess the baking sheet might be good, don't have it though

I tried the loaf pans for baking bread but didn't really like it as the directions said to leave it in the pans until it cooled, which resulted in a too-soft crust.

I received the cupcake pan. I did not like it. It had a weird feel. I also received the silicone sheet. My cookies did not come off as well as my Teflon sheet. Sorry I'm not a fan.

I have a square cake pan (small) and a small round cake pan as well. I like them for the most part, but they do get grungy looking because of the baked on oil.

I have a silicone muffin baker. It came from pampered chef and has the shapes of little flowers. It's neat. The only thing I don't like is I can't get the baked on oil residue off. Oh well. I also have silicone oven mits and hot pads. They are good for upto 500 degrees, supposedly. I have noticed that the thumb part seems to get a little bit hotter than the hand part when I am holding something hot.

Just have to be quick I guess.

I have a silicone loaf pan. It doesn't hold it's shape though & the loaves come out quite wide in the middle. I do love the silicone baking sheets, makes clean much easier.
