Posted - Oct 03 2015 : 08:52:37 AM Does anyone have a Bernina 830 sewing machine in the closet, that you no longer use? Would you be willing to part with it?
I purchased a used one over twenty five years ago. In January it got sick. I cried over it, prayed for it, and gave it a lot of TLC and rest. Eventually it sewed again. Sometimes when in zigzag mode it would skip a stitch or two. Then last weekend it said, "NO MORE", and it quit completely.
So if you have one or know of someone who does, I would love to hear from you. Thank you.

Posted - Oct 04 2015 : 7:39:57 PM Marilyn, If this connection with this other lady fails, there's an 830 on Ebay right now for 99.00 It's frozen which means it needs oil and lubing. No foot pedal or feet with it. But, I'm assuming you're already have those. It can be oiled by following the diagrams that usually come with the machine, if not, a diagram can be found. More hope!

Posted - Oct 04 2015 : 7:08:19 PM Oh and Sylvia, I will keep on looking for someone to help my old 830. I believe it can run again. It is a rare week that I do not sew, sometimes every day, so having a back up is very important to me.

Posted - Oct 04 2015 : 7:05:15 PM Thanks ladies for your tips and understanding. I "met" a sweet lady on line today, who has one that she no longer needs or uses. She is having some health issues, but when she is feeling better we will visit more. That is so exciting. Hope!

Posted - Oct 04 2015 : 6:32:00 PM Bernina motors can be found cheaper than replacing this awesome machine. It's worth fixing. Try to find another repair person. I had to really hunt around here to find a Bernina repair place that didn't lie to me. My Bernina 1130 needed repair and I was told to throw it away. No parts available and the parts they could fine would cost me a fortune. I found a repair person that lives on Whidbey Island, WA. I had to drive about 70 miles to his place. He quickly fixed my machine for $110.00. That included the part it needed and a thorough cleaning and oiling. Nothing beats these older Berninas. I've owned the 930 too. Right now I have an 1130, 1530 and two 900's. The 900s are bare bones. Bernina used cheap parts in these machines. Once those parts are replaced, they are as tough as their sister machines. I've been sewing since I was a kid. I truly didn't know what a fine sewing machine was until I had my Berninas. The modern ones??????? I'm encouraging you to get it repaired. If I find a bargain for you, I"ll let you know.

Posted - Oct 04 2015 : 3:21:08 PM I have a Bernina 930 Record Electronic! I LOVE IT! I've sewn all my life and have owned many machines and this one is the FIRST and ONLY one that I've had that doesn't have some issue of some sort! My oldest sister was instrumental in getting this one for me. I don't know how it compares with the 830, but I wouldn't give it up for anything! Hope you find one, Marilyn! CJ

Posted - Oct 03 2015 : 5:43:05 PM The 830 Record, with its DC motor is the strongest machine I have ever used. It was my buddy. They are simple, which I like and strong enough to patch jeans and sew through several layers of quilting fabric at a time. Problem is that the factory stopped making parts for them about five or six years ago. They came out with a new 830 that is almost as much as a small car.
