lovinRchickens	Posted - Aug 27 2015 : 3:25:09 PM Marilyn When I started a year ago the first two or three rounds did not suit my taste so I fed it to my cats and sprayed some on squash plants to ward off powdery mildew. By the fourth pint it was thicker, very effervescent, and tangy. From that point I loved it. You will notice 24 hours is too long a fermentation in this Texas heat. So I start checking around 8 hours and keep a close watch for thickening to occur. As winter comes along it takes much longer, so 24 hour fermentation is needed. I love buttermilk and the kefir I purchased reminded me of that taste. I guess this will be different, but still have a tangy sort of taste. Is that right. Do you do anything to your first batch to make it taste more like you enjoy it or just drink it?
