What's really fun about this post is my husband broke the digital camera and I'm going to have to describe it.

It's metal. It looks like a giant garlic press in that it has two hinged pieces, one of which is a basket with holes and the other is a plunger-type thing to push something through. But it's about a foot long and old and painted red. It's too big for a garlic press.

Any ideas without a photo?

The reason I'm posting here is some folks in "treasures" collect old kitchen utensils.

I love riced potatoes, but you are right Kim, it's a lot of work to use one of those cone ones. They're great for making apple sauce though.

I actually use my ricer as a garlic press for roasted garlic. Nice and big so I can press the whole head .

I had never heard of potato ricers until my Husband Dear's (maiden) aunts used one. Actually, they made me use it, and it's an old-fashioned thing that works like a pestal. You put the whole potato in a bowl looking thing with holes in in, then you have to mush it with a stick looking thing. Lotsa work.

Wow, Robin! Did you sneak into my house and take a picture! It looks exactly like that.

Is it old? I picked mine up at the thrift store incase anyone might like it in their kitchen collection.

That is so funny, Allison! Just the other day I was having a nostalgic discussion about potato ricers with my mom. We were talking about kitchen things that you just don't see anymore. How fun that you found one!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Does it look like this? The color might vary.

I have to agree with everyone else -- potato ricer. Where on earth did you get it?
rabbithorns Posted - Jul 07 2006 : 9:38:25 PM
Yay! I looked up potato ricers online and that's what it appears to be. As soon as I can get a photo, I'll see if nyone wants it. It looks older to me.

I agree with the potato ricer too...maybe if you looked up kitchen tools online you could find out for sure? Let us know when you do!!
