Just wanted to give everyone an FYI, if you are bartering books, magszines, or patterns. When mailing them out tell the post office you want to send it media mail. it is way way cheaper. you can get delivery confirmation and insure it same as parcel post. just make sure there is no other stuff in the package like a letter (i believe a short note or invoice type paper is ok), fabric, or whatever or you can get in trouble. thought i'd pass along the tip and save y'all some money. especially since these are some of the heaviest things to ship.

Big hugs,

Crystal

i didnt know that about the magazines. but i dont seal my packages untill i'm there. i show them whats in the box. then seal it up. i figure it's easier that way, i just have it all ready (addressed and such) and take the tape with me. thanks for the tip about the magazines.

Yup when I just sent out magazines I was told by the postmaster that magazines do not qualify for media mail. In fact, they told me if I was sending someone a book, I could not include a note, not even a "here's the book you requested" because that's a letter and is sent at a different rate. :)

I love media mail. Except that the postmaster opens ALL of my media mail here, because she's convinced that someone is going to scam them... so I always get my media mail opened and inspected first :)

I try to send MEDIA MAIL as much as possible. However, it does NOT work for magazines because they have advertisements in them. I've been told that by more than one post office and more than one postal worker.

They even told me that, because of the advertisements, you can't even send them Parcel Post.
And, they CAN open the package to see if, indeed, it qualifies for media mail. That happened to one of our "traveling books".

So, be prepared for that!
