Hi there everyone! I have some extra copies of magazines here and would love to trade them up for a couple things.
I am looking for quilting fabric and also homesteading how-to/back to the land/simple living books with good useable information in them. I will consider other things as well!
Here is what I have:
Hobby Farms - March/April 2010 to January/February 2011 TAKEN
Backyard Poultry - Aug/Sept 2008 to June/July 2009 and Feb/March 2010 to April/May 2010 TAKEN
BackHome - (not Backwoods Home) Jan/Feb 2010 and March/April 2010 TAKEN
MaryJanesFarm - Feb/March 2010 to April/May 2011 TAKEN

hi Cindy...sometimes as the hens age they can have their systems slow down so that they will have larger eggs that can be double yoke-rs as well.....It can also be due to minor stresses caused by coop cleaning, another hen is in the box they want to lay in...that one occurs often & a hen will sometimes hold the egg until they can get to the box/area they want....it can also be a genetic condition where sometimes they have them at a fairly normal time & then their clocks get off & they lay later larger eggs....If they are having one egg every couple of days they could be going thur some sort of change internally.....I think they lay about every 22 hours or so....can't remember right off the bat How is their protein levels right now? & for the last few months? I give mine dried mealy worms & dried grass hoppers (pet store, lizard section) to boost the protein I also buy regular Calcuim tablets & grind them up & sprinkle a couple of tablespoons of that in their feed once a week.... I am not sure what the article says since I will need to go see if I have that issue....but I know it can be a lot of factors & as long as her vent area is not prolapsing she will be fine...you may notice a bit of blood occasionally with the later eggs....they also could just have worn out vent, that is more elastic than it should be so the eggs can't move as quickly thur them since the muscles are no longer tight.....I am sure she is alright & you have no need to worry but do check the vent area for undue swelling, broken surface veins or overly bright red in color...if you see any of this go get some hemorroid ointment for people & use it on her daily to reduce the swelling & to ease the pain she may have....wipe her vent a bit just inside gently & put some of the ointment in there as well. Some hens will still give eggs with a prolaped vent & that is really quite bad & is sometimes non-reversable....but if thats ok up her protein just a bit & a bit more calcium in maybe some wet feed just for her & see if that will help her with the delayed laying...if nothing works you may just have a girl who is on her own 'egg' time.....Michele'

M is there any thing in the poulty mags about chickens that process there eggs slow, .. causing them to be overly large??

Thank you soooo much got the Maryjane mags today..once I am done with them I promise to pass them on to another farmgirl/hen...
Now I will go thur my books on homesteading, how tos ect tonight, I know I have some wonderful books,mags that I no longer need that might do you some good....have a great day!...Michele'

MaryJanes Farm magazines are taken, but BackHome, Backyard Poultry, and Hobby Farm are still up for grabs. :)

Debbie, I have someone who emailed me right before you posted. If she and I come to agreement on what to barter, the MJF magazines are gone. I will post when I know. However, you said you wanted both the MJF magazines and there are actually 8 magazines. :)
