Posted - Apr 26 2010 : 12:54:41 PM I have a batch of kefir grains to trade: they have been grown and nourished in raw goat milk. I'd like to trade instead of sell. Any takers?

Posted - Jun 02 2010 : 10:49:41 AM Carol, I *just* send someone some dried grains so I don't have extras any more, but yes some folk so send that way. I haven't actually tried reconstituting them, either....if the gal I sned to has success rehydrating and they grow, I can send you some when I have extras again. My grains went through a prolonged period of NOT growing and just started again, so if you find someone else who has some, take them up on it lol. They seem fine now but it's definitely a learning process!

Posted - Jun 02 2010 : 10:39:47 AM Would anyone happen to have any kefir grains available that they could send me? I've really been wanting to try making my own kefir. I wonder if dried wouldn't ship better/more safely. Is there a problem with making it from commercial milk? Here in Canada raw milk is illegal to sell or even give away and I don't live on a farm. Anyway, I'd be happy to trade or just pay for them.
Thanks!

Posted - May 20 2010 : 1:52:31 PM Dalyn, the *weirdest* thing has been happening! After about 3 or 4 months of not growing, my kefir grains have suddenly started growing again!! I had read they can go through phases, but complete dormancy?!? They were kefirizing my milk through it all but I figured it was only a matter of time before they stopped altogether. I am so excited, but rather baffled! I am forced to use commercial pasteurized milk, don't know but everyone who uses raw milk seems to have better growth too so maybe that contributed, but I haven't changed milk either....could spring milk be that much better that the grains grow differently even after pasteurization? All winter I wasn't able to share with anyone but I might be able to now, I am so excited LOL.

Posted - Apr 27 2010 : 3:26:57 PM Catherine, I think it was me...I'd love to trade, but my extra grains got snapped up quickly, and I need to let them grow again. I'll need a couple of weeks. They grow fast on raw goat milk this time of year.

Posted - Apr 27 2010 : 09:49:23 AM Dalyn, you might have been the Farmgirl whose email I previously erased by mistake.....maybe not. Someone had offered some to me but I lost the email and never got around to following up, ugh! I am looking to replace my kefir grains as while they are still kefirizing they aren't growing, so I know it's only a matter of time before they stop altogether. What are you looking to trade for? I have a lot of craft supplies, and I also have kombucha and tibicos cultures to offer. I'd be happy to trade or pay for them, either way.
