I don't always dry my sweaters. once you wash it, take a look at it, if it's still not tight enough, just wash it again...line drying is fine..I just dry in the dryer so I can use it sooner! I usually line dry all of my wash as well.

so heres one for you! I live off the grid. I can hot water machine wash this stuff, but no dryer since I line dry. Will it just take longer to felt?

Hi Ladies,
Thank you for all the tips. I wish I would have known about the pillowcase sooner,
I did try to felt some sweaters, and now my washer is broke. The spinning cycle
won't spin. Now I am not saying that it wasn't time for my washer
to go, because it is fifteen years old. Hannah I will email you. Toni |

honestly, I just put the sweater in with my regular laundry and shrink it in the warm water and dryer--I've made lots of mittens and hats for my whole family--they're great for warmth, even when wet--also have made a few blankets and purses, but favorites are mittens/hats :)
 (obviously those are not her size :) )
They wash nicely in the washer and dryer too, after they've been made/worn |

Hmmm...I have a stash that still needs to be felted, I'll have to give it a try. I'm sure it would help, it's the agitation that really makes them felt, to if you had a ball in with it, it would probably help.
Also, I put my sweaters in pillow cases before felting. If you're using your own washer you want to be careful because the fibers can cause problems. My business partner ( www.prettystinkingreen.com ) had to have her washer repaired because of all the felting she was doing! So, I have used pillow cases, and haven't had any problems...the fibers stay right in the case!

I have never done it but I read that if you put a tennis ball in with the sweater it makes it felt faster?

what I have done is bought 100% wool sweaters at the thrift and them Wash them in very hot water--3 times and dry them and there ya go --felted wool. Fun to make purses. MB
