Wondering what my chances are of finding a sewing machine in good working condition that I could barter some odds and ends for. :)

Doesn't need to be anything fancy, I just like to sew small projects like doll clothes and pillow cases, nothing major.

I was thinking of buying an inexpensive little Singer last month, but got the flu and missed work for a week, so bills ended up taking priority!!

So perhaps some of you ladies have a spare machine you aren't using--I can pay for shipping, and barter somethin' for it. If there's any response here, I'll post some pics of things I could barter. Maybe give me an idea of what you'd like for it. :)

Thanks much!!!

You might try just telling people in your neighborhood too. Someone may have one thye are gonna throw away and it still be a good machine . I had a neighbor give me a machine couple months ago --she was gonna throw out cause it wouldnt sew right. All it needed was to be cleaned and oiled good and the tension re-adjusted. It is nice --a kenmore in a cabinet. I use it more than my brother machine now.

How about Freecycle? I see sewing machines (working) on there (in our area, at least) all the time. . .everything on there's free, you just have to check and find your local area and sign up. It's just freecycle.org and then you can narrow it down to your local area. I've received some great things from there (and gotten rid of some great things, that I just didn't need any more) as well.
