I sent out a barter message and Luzy replied - look at the feather she painted on.
I just can't believe how beautiful it is! The picture is not as nice as the real thing
(is it ever?) but this would be a beautiful gift for a hunter. Luanne painted two
wild turkeys standing by the base a leafless bush/tree (birch?) and the tom turkey
has his tail fanned out - its so intricate and delicate....I don't know how she did
it, but it sure is awesome to me.
If anyone is interested, my young peacock has been molting some of his pretty barred feathers. They are mostly, at least, 12 inches long, some longer and some shorter. In addition there are some very long dark brown feathers from my peahen as well. If anyone is interested, let me know what you would have to trade. I have at least 50 of them.
Here's a picture of them as best as I could do.

Thanks everyone for the kind words of support. This is something new I'm trying and just love it! So far I've done 2 feathers. Chris is right about using or possessing raptor feathers. My great Grandma was full blood Cherokee, but there is nothing on paper to prove it, so I get some nice imitation eagle and hawk feathers from a company called Crazy Crow. They have great stuff there from beading supplies to patterns for Mountain Man attire. I make war shirts and get most of my supplies there, and at a local company. I wish I could use the "real deal" as far as the feathers are concerned, but it's just not worth taking that chance and getting into trouble. Again, thanks for the compliments. I hope to perfect the feather painting more and maybe put some on my Etsy site. We'll see. Big Hugs, Lu

And a side note here, for those who do not know this, it is not legal to have in your possession
an eagle feather unless you are at least 1/4 native american, and have a federal permit to possess
an eagle feather. And there are other bird feathers you cannot have - most are in the "raptor" category,
some/or all on the endangered species lists. To me, it would not be worth the risk or just to go
thru the turmoil of an ordeal with the feds for a feather. There are plenty of fake feathers that
look real to be had if having that kind of feather is what you want.
The feather pictured here, I think is one of the wild turkey feathers, or one of the peafowl feather I sent to
Luzy.
Beth, I noticed at the bottom of your post, it says "I Can" - I think that's a marvelous affirmation. My
BIL used to quote to me 'Say you can, or say you can't. Either way, you're going to be right.' |

I would love to have an eagle feather- my son is an eagle football player and we always talk about eagles. Here is our eagle motto that goes with the football website:
THE EAGLE'S SECRET

Hi Lu,
I have about 10 of those feathers. 3 are about 16" long, 3 are about 10" long, and the other 4 are about 8" or thereabouts. |

those are pretty..I can see someone using those to create pretty wreaths, to use on gourds, etc. they look nice. Hope you find a home for them.I used to paint on feathers..on the solid color feathers.
