Hi Everyone!
I was just wondering if there is any sort of guidlines for RAOK's. At least as far as letting people know when you recieved them. I have sent out a few and haven't heard that the people recieved them on the other end. I'm not looking for a thank you or anything like that; I just merely want to know that the post office didn't lose them or something went haywire in transit.
Thanks Ladies!

good points given by all!! I guess my quick point is.....keep sending the RAOK as the time you spent on it is not wasted as we all know what it is like to receive something in the mail other than bills:)

Kim you put it in words so beautifully, thank you for sharing your feelings. Raok's are tricky matters, you just hope to get to know someone better by sending them something, (and maybe there is some hope in a more personal communication undergoing in our minds), because we got the list and preferences of each lady, and you hope someone would like to get to know you better by sending you something. We do need recognition by our peers, by our group, that meams we do belong there.
So keep it going ladies.

i'm guilty. my mother preached the importance of thank you notes, but i admit, i'm guilty of not always being on top of it.
i have received several packages in the mail and, at risk of being ostracized, i have not responded with an acknowledgement or thank you.
believe me, i experience the guilt of my own actions (or inactions) everytime i think about it.
i could make excuses, but i won't.
however, i will share what i believe about giving. i believe that we must give, free of any and all expectations. otherwise, it is not truly a gift. no matter how big or small. no matter it word, deed or thing, give with a loving, generous heart.
these are my beliefs and my feelings and in no way reflect the thoughts and opinions of mary jane or her farmgirls (hee hee),
i hope ya'll don't hate me for putting in my 2 cents worth

Jessie,

I've was scratchin' my head too. I sent out several to both list. I heard from 3. I sent an email to those I hadn't heard from to just check to see if they were lost. One responded they had never received their package, two said they had. So I have several floating I guess. I will use the delivery confirmation from now on. I have been feeling alittle torn about this. As you said it's not the thank you that's needed but more of a courtesy that it arrived safely.

I think the issue is alittle slippery-slidey here. Let me see if I can verbalize. I think it is a given that any Farmgirl that is participating has taken the time to choose something special for another Farmgirl by reading her list of favorite things. She's hoping to bring some sunshine to her day and is likely thinking how excited she'll be to find her special "surprise" in the mail. It's suppose to be fun for all. I think it is normal in this case to be expecting an acknowlegement & the fact that alot are posted adds to that expectation...this is how I felt.

My daughter informed me originally with a "RAOK" the receiver was not suppose to know the giver. It was truly then a gift with no expectations. There are huge lessons here for both giver & receiver as well as blessings. As my daughter and I were discussing this she grabbed the phone book, had me choose letter after letter until she had a last name. Then she randomly selected a person who she insisted I make and mail a card to pronto. She wanted me to feel the full impact of the "not knowing". That exercise changed it for me.

Thank yous, appreciations, acknowledgements -we're human, and we all want them. But you know what, whether you receive it or not you can KNOW it was present regardless. There is joy in both.

There are some great websites on "RAOK" - google it for fun.

In the meantime, continue to "be kind" it changes everything!

I like to leave a message here on the site of what I received and a big thank you. Then I also email a thank you to the sender, and sometimes a card in the mail. Thank you's are very important.

Hi Jessie, I have had the same problem. I have recieved a couple thank you's in the RAOK list. Also I have only recieved a couple RAOK's in the mail. Must be something I said..... Who knows.
I do know that it gives you food for thought about doing it again. Oh well, it is better to give than recieve. So I guess I'd just better shut me mouth.

you can also ask that a delivery confirmation be attached to your package..I believe it is typically 75 cents additional charge on shipping, but it gives you a tracking number. this is also a great way to make sure customers from the etsy shops recieve their product.
