UPDATE: Cancer Stage III - We were informed this morning after the fourth biopsy results were reviewed. We will head to the oncologist locally, tomorrow morning to develop a chemo regimen to begin immediately. I am stunned. Since February we have been trying to get a diagnosis once in Green Bay with an 11 day stay in hospital with severe pancreatitis, twice out at Mayo and then to Milwaukee at Froedtert-who ultimately was able to get a biopsy that actually contained cancer cells. So now the journey really begins. I am so scared. Please continue your prayers sweet farmgirls-we will need every voice. I will keep you updated. Thank you so much, Love Mel

we are going thru a difficult time these last few weeks with scans and a multitude of tests and tomorrow another scan to determine what a 2.5 cm mass is doing inside my husbands pancreas. He is asymptomatic other than some gi issues and has lost 40 pounds in six months. All other gi scans came back clear until they found this on a CT scan last week.

I am scared to death--having a terrible time trying to gain control of my crying so that I can be a supportive wife. I consider myself a strong no nonsense kind of woman, but I am floundering.

Anyone out there experiencing a similar situation? Any advice would be grateful.

Mel

UPDATE: Almost made it to our 4th chemo treatment this week but unfortunately husband is experiencing cancer pain and has been admitted to hospital to control the pain and begin pain management. He was doing so well! I am home now only ten minutes away and will return tomorrow morning with his necessities. He's not discouraged, but in pain and hopefully we will be able to manage that quickly and resume the chemo. Just thought I'd update you guys and let you know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth - YET.

Please continue with the good and positive thoughts and PRAYERS...it really, really does help us on this journey.

love,
Mel

Mel, thank-you for your update and I continue to keep you and hubby in my thoughts and prayers. It is also wonderful to hear that the place you are at is cheerful and supportive which will make the many weeks easier on everyone. Hubby looks wonderful with that smile and I am happy you are feeling calmer about all that is happening. Take care and when you get a chance, I look forward to your updates. Big Hugs to you and your loved ones from Florida!

Thank you for the update, Mel! You both continue to be in my prayers. I’m so glad that some of your fears have been put to rest. Grab onto that and let it feed you the energy that you need. You are in great hands with the nurses and the drs as well as our greatest healer, our Lord. Hugs to you! :)

Debbie: He's SO thin--lost 70 plus pounds. He used to big hunk of a guy....his color is good and he is very positive which is what we need. Scary first day we did not know what to expect-the nurses are wonderful-they were on top of things all day long---thank you for the continued prayers.

what a super long day-at the clinic for blood tests and dr. consult at 7:30 started his first chemo session-one of 8 sessions every other week and we were the last to leave at 2:45. Everything went VERY well. So many added meds for nausea and diarrhea etc to buffer any side effects from the chemo which is very strong. He left with a fanny pack for a slow drip of the last chemo med thru his port and will have 48 hours of that only to return to the hospital on Wednesday when it's empty-We are relieved that he did well-but we are holding our collective breaths as the day isn't over yet, but so far so good. Thank you ladies for all the support and prayers-we are so grateful. Love, Mel

Port was placed on Tuesday without difficulty-Chemo begins early Monday morning with blood tests first and consult with the oncology Dr. then his first treatment lasting five hours-six including the morning blood test/consult time. Amazingly, I feel pretty calm.

My daughter will move back into the old home place this Sunday afternoon and spend one week at a time specifically the week he has chemo and head back to her apartment for two weeks-this will go on for 16 weeks-after two months he will have a cT scan to see if the chemo is shrinking the tumor so surgery can hopefully be done to remove it.

The Cancer Center is beautiful and currently they are landscaping the grounds directly facing the huge glass windows in the chemo area-Waterfall, walking garden...it will be quite lovely for all of the patients sitting in the area with a green and flowering view. We had a walk thru last week and it put many fears to rest-I was imagining florescent lights somewhere in the basement kinda atmosphere, but this will be comfortable and bright with a lovey view.

Please continue with prayers and support as we open a new chapter in our pancreatic cancer journey.

Love you guys, Mel

Melody,
I sent you an email response yesterday, but reading your post from yesterday gives me an update too. I'm sorry the experience at Mayo was so disappointing, especially when you hear so much about the Mayo Clinic.
I will be praying for you and Bruce in the new situation . . . for answers, for healing, for hope!
Love, Hugs and Prayers!

i'm writing this at an airbnb in milwaukee-another biopsy ERCP is scheduled for tomorrow before noon at froedtert cancer clinic-no more Mayo for us-they just didn't know what was up and time is of the essence so we contacted our 1st gi specialist who knows a very renowned pancreas man at froedert and got us in within days of contacting his old new england friend-for that we are eternally grateful-this will be his 4th biopsy-if this is found 'inconclusive' then the dr. will open him up for a birds eye view of his pancreas. we are collectively holding our breath-but i have a feeling they will not find anything and will have to schedule an open laparotomy which frankly, scares me more than any of his previous ERCP's. think positive thoughts ladies and continue with prayers-we surely do appreciate it. i will keep you updated. love, Mel
