Ok farmgirls...I was screened for this and I am at 90% that I am perimenopause. Ok- I accept this. I am only 33 but doc thinks having my DS last year threw me all out of whack and possibly into early perimenopause. I am ok with aging (though I do fight it with tooth and nail and a box of haircolor... )

So, what did/do you all do to help alleviate the symptoms and better deal with things? I am looking at drastically changing my diet (it is not the best now, let's just say fried ice-cream is a staple.... )

I have a lot of weight to lose and I know that this will help over all but that is going to take time. I am looking for natural ways to deal with this.

Doc put me on hormone's after my son was born and I had a HORRIBLE time, so they are not an option, plus I don't really like medicine's unless absolutely necessary.

P.S. One more thing, the women in my family tend to hit menopause early, so I think I am following suit here....

I've been having fun with having both PMS's,(premenstrual and perimenopause) and dealing with my very active 3.5 year old son! After some research, I just recently began taking black cohosh every day. It immediately helped me with my mood swings and memory loss. I just had a check-up and the doctor gave me samples for Encora vitamins for women. I had been taking a generic women's vitamin that, thanks to the iron, had been quite tough on my tummy. The Encora vitamins are broken up in two doses, two pills in the morning & two in the evening, so that your body can absorb all the ingredients and not get overloaded from one pill. I find it to be much more effective & gentler to my system. Now if I can only find a way to tame my 3.5 year old!

Well listen if you expect bad things to happen----you know it will. We were taught to listen to our bodies and always accept change and celebrate change. Fortunately for me when I was whatever age well one month I had my period and the next month I didn't and I haven't since and I've had no bad side effects or whatever they are called. I expected to not get anything and by gum I didn't. Now watch me fall over.........MB

I have been using natural progesterone cream since perimenopause and right on through.
It helps with hot flashes and night sweats. I have heard that they no longer recommend black cohosh but I have a multivitamin (organic) that I take that has hormone balancng herbs in it and I have found that using the cream and taking vitamins have really made a big difference. I feel back to normal for most of the time....lol.

Heather, welcome to the club! I just turned 49 and I had my first hotflash at 35. I did have a hysty and then subsequent surgery due to infection when I was 44. Hormone replacement did nothing positive for me and most herbal remedies didn't do much either. I still have 1 ovary and I can tell when I'm having a "cycle" as my breasts get VERY sore, worse than pms sore. Anyway, for what its worth, I have found that drinking soy milk has helped the flashes some, as well as avoiding heavy carb snacks before bed. Also stress will trigger one.
Husband is used to Psycho-woman now and I try to warn him when I'm cranky so he can avoid me.

try www.womentowomen.com and look at "bio-identical" hormones. After my hysterectomy I asked to be placed on Vivelle Dot which is a bio-identical estregen patch. Have been using it for 4.5 years and love it. It does not contain any progestin which caused such a stir in the health study done several years ago. Hope this helps.

I am having alot of luck with two products. Progesta-Care by Life-Flo and Hot Flash by Source Naturals. My Dr. want to give me hormones or anti-depressants to help with the mood swings and hot falshes but since I had done both in the past and it was not a good experience I said no I would do something natural. He laughed and said I'd be back! But I have had really good luck, the hot flashes are almost gone completely and my mood swings are better. At least I like myself most of the time. My DH also had me stick my head out of the window of the car one day as I was sweating and it really worked too. Now I know why the dogs do it. I know that the products are working as I quite using them for 3 weeks and bingo symptoms were back full force. (will not do that for awhile again) Took two weeks to get them back under control. Now all I have to do is wait for the brain to stop asking the oviaries to work. I also eat health, work out as often as possiable and color my hair to hide my grey.

If you are looking for an herbal natural helper for HOT FLASHES try black cohosh... My doctor believes in natural remedies first and suggested this one. You can grow it in your herb garden.

My mom swore by SWEATING alot by exercising and she also loved to swim. It kept her lean and fit through menopause. She figured she was going to out sweat the hot flashes...go figure!!! : )

At 49, I think I am just about to the other side....menses have all but stopped (yea!!) I can identify with the forgetting (something I never used to do)... I take a little time each day now to do both a word puzzle and a sudoku puzzle to challenge my brain. I read somewhere that that can help keep the memory a bit sharper. Oh, and the hot flashes.....never did find a cure for them. Hang in there!!

I am starting to notice a few signs that I am right there with ya. Not fun. I am going to check out that website too. Forgetfulness is one of my problems right now too. Never had a problem with that before. I havn't been tested yet but will when I go for a checkup here pretty soon. I am 48 so I guess it is about time..ugh.

OH yes!! THE MOOD SWINGS!!! My DH doesn't know if he is going to come home to his wife or a some whacked out stranger.. : )

I am trying to take it all with a grain of salt (or maybe without to avoid bloating) but I figure I would nip it in the bud as early as I can.

Perimenopause was the worst time in my life...mood swings, anger fits, hot flashes, depression almost continual menses. I really don't know how my family lived with me, or how my coworkers put up with me either.

I didn't really realize that I was going through this, until my mother said, "You are probably getting ready to go through the change." Well, that was a lightbulb moment I tell you. I did go to the MD and got some bio-equivalent hormones....didn't really work for me. But just knowing what I was going through helped some. Tried to cut down on caffeine, chocolate, refined sugar, exercise more and tried to not beat myself up so much over things.

It can be a very difficult time for any woman. So many changes, aging parents, children, work, responsibilites. Good luck. There is hope. The other side of menopause is not so bad now that I'm here. But sure wish I were younger with all of the hormonal protection.
