It may be coming to your town. Try to avoid it at all costs. Both of my daughters and now myself came down with it. They picked it up at school, I somehow had a break in my handwashing, or it could be that my one daughter vomited all over the house and I cleaned it all up and got it that way, but it is vicious. Or it could have been from food samples we ate at the Kroger the other day. Each of us started with a severe headache then twenty-four hours of vomiting and diarrhea and body pain that is unbelievable. Totally knocked me off of my feet all day yesterday, I feel better today, but I know that I am not well yet. It is extremely contagious and from what the CDC says it is contagious before symptoms occur and for 3 days after your symptoms are gone. And the virus can be in your stool for up to 2 to 3 weeks after symptoms are gone.

Blimey......it is horrible!!

My daughter's school had 72 people out with it one day last week, their school board says that the kids can come back in twenty four hours after symptoms are gone, but I'm sticking to the CDC's three days. That is why this thing keeps reoccurring. According to the CDC there are so many different strains of this virus that there is no immunity to it.

Anyway farmgirls, if any of you get it or your children get it: isolate them, wash your hands extremely well, use bleach on everything. Super hot water wash all of the linens. Don't send them back to school for three days minimum. Keep fluids going even if they are throwing up. It is easier to throw up water than the dry retching. Usually in the medical field we say that if you are vomiting withhold all fluids and foods to help decrease the vomiting and loss of body electrolytes, but this is a self limited illness (24 hours) and the vomiting is going to happen regardless and you can dehydrate really fast, so push the fluids as you can: Popsicles, water, broth. The thinner the liquid the better. Get in some Tylenol at the earliest time. Crush it if you have to so that it will absorb quickly and less chance of throwing up a whole pill. Rest, sleep and stay close to a toilet.

Well....I don't wish this on anyone. Good Luck and avoid the Norovirus.

Thank you all! I think we are all mostly recovered now. Lost about ten pounds though....so that is the silver lining. Jana, you poor thing. So, so sorry, but you are right it is horrible. I heard through my husband's aunt that the hospital I used to work in was closed to visitors due to the spread of the Norovirus there.

I ended up vomiting for about 12 hours and then the other end for days. I did take my own adviced, rested and forced plenty of fluids. And you are right.....I don't want to run into this bug ever again either!!!!

Georgann, I hope all is going well for you. I contracted a strain of the Norovirus 2 years ago and landed in the hospital. I'm in generally good health, other than fibromyalgia, but after 7 hours of retching, I was so week, that I couldn't get up off the bathroom floor. I ended up with IV fluids and several attempts with anti-nausea meds, which left me totally out of it. The nursing staff was great at helping me with my "messy" needs. I went home the next day. I think the big thing is to watch for dehydration.
I still cannot figure out how I contracted it when all of the family ate the same food, all prepared by me, and nothing raw. It was a busy time at our house so we ate a lot of "easy" meals using canned goods and even eggs were hard boiled before using. I guess its a mystery!
I just hope I never EVER run into that bug again!

I got this the first week of January. I cramped and cramped. It was bad.

Washing hands won't do it. You'd have to wash for 10 minutes straight. You can use the hand sanitizer stuff.

Right now I have another stomach virus, but this is very mild compared to what I had in January. The kids are sick too, but just fever, if they've had tummy trouble they haven't mentioned it.

UGH! Now I am paranoid. I feel queasy and I am staying home today. I also had a mild case of diarrhea this weekend. I hope you all feel better soon! I hate the stomach flu.

Blessed Be!

Dang! That's bad, George! I'm sorry y'all had it and I hope you feel better. Schools have sent home papers on some stomach virus here, and we are trying to avoid it like the plague (no pun intended). Once something like that gets in the house, everyone in the family might as well stand in line to get it. So far, we've been lucky. (fingers crossed).
