Posted - Jan 24 2007 : 12:09:24 PM Ok ladies while we're on the subject of natural soaps...what do you use for dish soap? Are the same nasty chemicals in dish soap that are in shampoo and shower gel? If so that's a horrible thought that we're eating off of dishes washed in that. I'm at work right now so I can't look at the list of ingredients in dish soap. |

Posted - Jan 31 2007 : 8:06:00 PM Tasha, that would be great if you could post the recipe! Right now I use Ivory Liquid, which is relatively mild, but with me having problems with detergents in general, using something else might be a good idea. I'm constantly having to lotion my hands. My dishwasher is broken and I can't afford another at the moment, so I AM the dishwasher! Grating castile is NOT something I'd be able to do with fibro, either.

Posted - Jan 31 2007 : 09:35:42 AM Instead of grated castille you can use liquid castille...I have a dishsoap recipe, but I am not finding my book immediately around me. I'll find it later and post it.
I normally use Seventh Gen. but I just bought at the co-op I belong to, a big bottle of EcoVer. I am anxious to try it and I have heard nothing but goodness about it.

Posted - Jan 29 2007 : 10:26:19 AM Borax isn't totally nontoxic. There's some info about it here: http://www.magicalchildhood.com/articles/borax.htm
I'd still use it in my laundry, but I wouldn't use it on dishes. |

Posted - Jan 29 2007 : 09:25:48 AM Since you can use a borax and baking soda combo in place of dishwashing detergent ( I have done this and it works great!) I am going to take the laundry soap recipe Tasha posted and except use baking soda instead of washing soda for washing dishes. I have used just plain borax before when I was out of dish soap and it makes the water so soft. So it will be.... 1 cup grated castille 1/2 cup baking soda 1/2 cup borax
Remember though...just because it doesn't suds up does not mean it isn't clean! ![](icons/icon_smile.gif)

Posted - Jan 24 2007 : 6:33:25 PM I've used Trader Joe's lavender and it works really well. Any of the Bio-Kleen stuff is great. But right now -- please don't yell at me -- I'm using Palmolive. That is the brand I've always used. I love the smell and sometimes I just have to use a bottle and then go back to the natural stuff.

Posted - Jan 24 2007 : 5:57:38 PM I use Seventh Generation's lavender dish soap. Mmmmmm. I love the smell. But, I have to admit to using Fairy liquid every now and then, It's from England and I used it when I was there. When my friend went back in November, she brought back a bottle for me. :)

Posted - Jan 24 2007 : 5:35:10 PM I use Seventh Generation with orange oil and I love it!! It's especially great after making cold processed soap because it cuts through all the oils on the equipment. Bio-Kleen also has great products as well. I use there laundry soap and stain and odor remover.
Blessings,
Missy
