WHUMP!!! Day before yesterday I fell down half a flight of stairs at home - hard, old, wooden painted stairs, holding Arthur, who many of you know is just almost 5 months old. THANK HEAVENS, he didn't even have a bump or scratch (that mothering protective instinct is amazing, isn't it?), but as for me? Well... I ended up in the ER - they thought I had a broken femur or hip - but again, thank heaven, just the largest hematoma (horrid bruise) that has ever come through our little ER the doctor said. Anyhoo - I've been a bit bed-bound and medication-hazed, but I'm on my way back up!!! I just can't seem to keep myself away from you all - I miss you even for a day!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Libbie - so relieved to hear that no broken bones are involved and that your baby is okay! I am sorry about your bruise - I had a hematoma after surgery at the surgery site, and ice saved the day for me. I kept a ice pack on it a lot, and the pain was much relieved and the swelling also.

Take care, and watch those steps! So glad it was not worse!

Libby, hope the aches and pains are subsiding nicely. And I agree, arnica ointment is great for hastening the disappearance of bruising. So glad your little bundle of joy was spared; I bet he thought you were playing a new game with him! Have a relaxing happy weekend! Nance

I'm glad you're feeling better, Libbie--even if it looks like a wreck. Oh, aren't you glad it's wintertime and the legs get covered up?

hugs,

HOLY COW!!! It's true!!!! My entire leg is weird-colored, from the top to the bottom. This darn thing is sure taking its time going away, or maybe I'm a *tad* bit impatient... and a lump the size of a grapefruit - I'm not kidding - it's huge. Oh well, I'm feeling so much better and walking so much better, I can hardly bring myself to get upset about it!

I did that once at 8 months pregnant with my second child while holding the first both kids where fine but I was a mess. I hope your recovery is much faster than mine and I am so glad to here that your little bouncing baby boy :o) is just fine. MAy be he will grow up to be a quarterback he already has all the football practice he needs in the dodging department if not his mom can show him a thing or two. Just kidding I hope you both are up and playing together soon glad to hear you are on the mend and that he didn't get hurt. Funny thing about mom's and kids we tend to forget ourselves to take care of the little ones and they never seem to notice. In time he will hear the stories and know how much mom loved him to the point of pain.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe my blog http://sunshinescreations.blogspot.com

Oh gosh, that hurt just hearing about it! Here's to a quick and uneventful recovery!

Oh, and you'll be amused to watch the changes in your big ugly bruise as time goes by. First you get dark violet and plum, with reddish purple streaks. Then they begin to have green tinges, and finally yellow. When you can bear to touch it again you'll find all sorts of knots and lumps--- scar tissue. And someday the color will be gone, and you'll just have the knots and lumps. Sometimes they can stay for years!

Years of horses have shown me this.

OW, OW, OW! My mom fell down our stairs when we lived at Fort Lewis (WA) and broke her tailbone. Not fun! Praise God you're ok and the bruise WILL eventually go away. Did they tell you that it will probably migrate? The bruising may very well travel down your leg as you get better before it goes away. I had a nice one when I fell over a bench I was using as a coffee table and hit the corner! Arnica ointment helped a lot!

Blessings!

Oh, dear girl, just reading your post was painful! If anyone comments on your nasty bruise, just say "Well, yeah, but you should see the other guy!" ;-)

Little Arthur is lucky to have a mom with such wonderful mother-wit, as Mary Jane would say.

Oh Libbie! That's horrible! I'll say- "Ouch!" Those kind of falls are the worst- because you're so intent on protecting the baby that you forget about you. The girl that does my nails told me that if you hard boil an egg, peel it and roll it over the bruise, it will go away much quicker. I tried it on my arm and it did work. However, how you are going to do that where you have yours is another matter all together!!;)

Oh Libbie! So sorry to hear of your mishap! How scary!! I fell down our stairs last Dec. and boy did that hurt. My bottom looked like purple/red/blue batik fabric! I thought I'd broken my ankle, but just sprained it. Take good care of yourself and I'm happy to hear that your baby wasn't harmed. Big Hugs! Lu

Om-gosh Libbie! So glad it wasn't more serious!! Listen girl, get thee some arnica gel pronto.

Arnica will soothe pain, you can apply it like 5 times a day which should keep you covered but it will speed the healing of bruises like you wouldn't believe. Arnica is about as close to real magic as I've been able to find. ;)

Libbie,
My goodness, that was not good. I fell down a flight of stairs a few years ago holding a wall mirror, I got banged up pretty good, but didn't break the mirror. Must have been all those years of carrying small children around saved the mirror. So glad the little guy is fine, and at least grateful you didn't break anything, you will just be more colorfull in that one area.

Oh my gosh Libbie!!! You poor thing!! Holy cow!! I hope you are tons better soon. Glad to hear that Arthur didn't get hurt too. I know what you mean about the mother protective thing ...you probably hurt yourself worse by twisting and turning to protect him.
I am sure glad you feel better enough to be back here. I hope I can get away to come visit you soon now that the holidays are about over.
