Posted - Oct 09 2015 : 1:31:53 PM What do you all do for flu prevention?
I have to get the shot because I live with immunosuppressed people and can't risk them getting sick from me. I and my family are healing up from a tummy virus that we've had all week, so no matter what, something will slip through and get you anyway.
I'm looking to build an arsenal of cold and flu medicinals that aren't otc chemical stuff; to catch the sneaky stuff and viruses that slip through. I can't take echinacea because it makes me sick, so I'm looking into other immune boosters and potions for relief from flu and bugs of all sort.
I've got some elderberry seedlings on my list of garden plants to buy.

Posted - Feb 11 2016 : 9:55:52 PM we do not do vaccinations in our family. I make herbal tinctures and capsulate formulas and make teas. If we feel something coming on the tea kettle gets busy with pau d'arco tea we take echinichia and goldenseal capsules. and take shots of olive leaf tincture. usually nip it in a day. two at most if it got somewhat of a grip on you before battling it. We have not had flu in our family for maybe 15 years. it did get us one winter.

Posted - Oct 13 2015 : 12:40:59 PM I'm with you, Winnie. I have been taking the flu shot ever since I started volunteering at the local elementary school about 25 years ago. I hadn't had the flu since, until this past spring -- Memorial Day Sunday, actually. Since we had all read that the authorities had targeted the wrong bugs with last year's shot, I was undaunted -- marched right down to the local pharmacy and got the shot a week or two ago.

Posted - Oct 12 2015 : 9:23:01 PM Anna, Does the entire lemon need to be consumed, peel and all? It sounds like a tasty way to get a super does of vitamin c. I like to add lemon to my water for flavor and taste. I call it "spa water." :) I will try your idea!

Posted - Oct 10 2015 : 9:12:31 PM I don't get the flu shot anymore. Seems like every time I did get it that is when I got sick. It would just wipe me out for a while. I do cook with lots of fresh onions and garlic though. We have also started using sovereign silver during this season. Elderberry syrup is also good. Plenty of hand washing, and I keep a small bottle of sanitizer with me whereever I go. We also do our best to stay away from crowds of people.

Posted - Oct 09 2015 : 1:57:42 PM Annika Elderberry syrup is easy to make and can be taken as a preventative or increased doses if you catch a cold.
