My son has always suffered from terrible canker sores. Lately, at 23, he is having huge sores in his throat. Is there something we can do for him that is holistic/herbal?

Sherone, with huge sores in his throat, I think it might be best to have your son seen by a regular doctor for a diagnosis. Canker sores usually don't end up in the throat, so perhaps there is another reason for this which needs proper attention. Until you can get into see a doctor, mild warm salt water gargles are soothing and won't hurt him. Just don't make the solution too salty or it will burn like crazy and he doesn't need more irritation. Canker sores are a form of Herpes virus and when they are spreading and getting worse, there are better treatments available with medication to stop the outbreaks. To that end, a visit to your doctor is the best way to identify exactly what is causing the sores in case it is not herpes but something else that needs attention. Throat sores are very painful and I would not put off getting some treatment any longer. Self diagnosis at home and then applying a home remedy is risky when a problem is getting worse. Getting to the bottom of the cause and then treating the cause, is the only way to make sure you are addressing the right problem with the right solution. I hope you get some help soon and your son is on a path for regular management of this painful problem.
