I just wanted to pass on a few words of advise if you have any heart valve issues or heart disease, high blood pressure or poor health and need to go in for dental work or deep cleaning where they clean under the gums and scrape the root etc...

I have Lyme disease which has caused heart valve problems and a raft of other issues. you can see my other health posts to read what they are.

Whenever, I am going to go to the dentist I start taking a natural antibiotic and strong probiotics a few days ahead of time and then continue for 30 days afterward.

My mother who has kidney disease and heart disease and who has not been having any issues with either went in to have her teeth cleaned. They had been trying to get her to do the deep cleaning but she did not want to pay the price.

I reminded her at the time to ask for an antibiotic. Well, that has been over a year and she changed dentists and did not tell me until after the fact.

Well, she had dental work done and deep cleaning in one section, now is having arrhythmia issues, feels like she is on deaths door all due to them not giving her the antibiotic! She is on complete bed rest!

So, please be careful and if you are older or have poor health please take the extra care of your health and take an antibiotic ahead of time and afterward too.

A lot of people don't know that you can ask for Lidocaine (used to be called Novocaine) without Epinephrine. The Epinephrine is what makes your heart race and scares the you know what out of most of us.
Dentists used to use prophylaxic antibiotics, much more freely than they do now - due to so much press on antibiotic overuse.

Thank you Nini for your concern about my Mom. Happily, she is on the mend. After, 5 months her kidney doctor figured out it was several things keeping her from getting better. It was a Niacin pill that her heart doctor put her on last year that was causing the heart beat to skip.

Marsha! I'm so glad you brought this information up to our attention. It's just not something we usually think of when we're headed to the dentist, is it! Thank you so much!

How is your mother holding up? I hope she's getting stronger every day. Not fun. I'll say prayers for her!

Hugs -

Nini

Thank you Kristen. She is better. Not completely over this but the doctors did find that her potassium and magnesium were very low so they put her on a regular supplement now.

Great information, thank you! I hope your mother improves. :(

I remember when I was at a chain dentist that I was getting a crown or something and they had me lying at quite a strange angle (hate those dentist chairs!!) and my gum was bleeding and they put something on it to stop it - I thought I was going to have a heart attack!! My pulse was a'flyin and I made a motion to get me up to a sitting position right quick. So scary!! My crown fell out and I never went back there again.
