Posted - Feb 14 2014 : 7:05:17 PM I've been doing some reading up on chai seeds. It sounds like they have many health benefits such as regulating blood pressure, help with diabetes and adds healthy omega-3 into your diet just to name a few. I was wondering if any of you have used them and what you think of them?

Posted - Feb 15 2014 : 11:14:59 AM They definitely expand in the digestive tract, so don't eat a ton! They hold water well, and are used by athletes because the water sticks to the seeds and aids in prolonged hydration. They are also used for the same reason to make you feel full. You can see how the water adheres when you add it to them. It is quite a slimy texture actually. I've added a bit of them to my smoothies (only about a tablespoon), and have added about a quarter cup or so to a muffin recipe. You can also sprinkle on top of salads etc. Go easy at first, cause the buggers DO expand.

Posted - Feb 15 2014 : 10:59:51 AM Emily- between the gastric bypass (I can't force a burp) and the fact that I tend to do nothing in moderation (meaning I ate a LOT of the pudding it was so good and I didn't know ahead about the gas!) --i'm ok now but it was scary! have fun with them!

Posted - Feb 15 2014 : 07:00:34 AM Oh no, Margo! What a bad experience! I did read that they cause gas so I figure for everyone's safety, I will try them on the weekend. From what I read, it sounds like your body just needs time to get used to them because they are so fiber filled. I'm wondering if you did have that reaction because of the gastric bypass. I read quite a few articles and reviews and I didn't see anyone that had that happen to them. So sorry you had such a bad experience with them! Thanks for sharing though so I can be aware if that were a side effect!

Posted - Feb 15 2014 : 06:17:05 AM i was excited to make "pudding" with them- milk in a shaker or jar and seeds-shake it up-yum-like tapioca but with dark seeds...well-i had a bad experience -might be because i had gastric bypass surgery tho not sure-chai seeds can cause gas- i ended up at ER and an overnite cuz i thought i was having a heart attack....
again...my problem could have been due to my stomach situation- they were a wonderful way to get healthy but i won't chance it again....
