Posted - Jul 11 2013 : 07:20:28 AMMy Grandma was telling me her mother and grandmother would pick Basswood blossoms, dry them and then use them as tea in the winter. She also said sometimes they would just eat a few right from the tree. I tried one and it tasted like honey!
Has anyone else tried or heard of that?

Posted - Jul 29 2013 : 06:25:01 AMMy grandparents swore by basswood tea made from blossoms. My grandparents contributed it to be good for colds and overall good health. What heritage is your family? Mine grandparents are from Switzerland. From what I have read the tea from basswood is much more tastier from the European basswood then the american basswood tree but none the less my family still drinks it here in America. The Basswood has a few edible parts. The young leaves are also make a great salad. The cambium is also edible and tasty if you peel back the bark in early summer you will find the cambium it taste like a very sweet cucumber.I have never heard of eating the the blossoms but have heard of eating the winter buds off the branches.
