Both of my parents are diabetic and I am doing all I can to prevent developing the disease myself. They are both somewhat living in denial, as they still stuff candy and cookies and doughnuts into themselves. I took my mom - the biggest offender- grocery shopping after her knee surgery (with her in the scooter with a basket.) She asked me to get 2 packages of the cream-filled cookies for her. I told her "No", and she got mad at me and said that they do not affect her blood sugar at all. Well, they may not affect her blood sugar, but after watching her heave herself out of the scooter to get the cookies I could hold back no longer. I sort of spelled things out to her and she was not too happy. But honestly, I can't sit back and watch them destroy their health. Aargh!!

There's something to be said for the "ounce of prevention..." thing, isn't there? I've found that out with sunscreen. Wow - I wish I would have worn the stuff for the past twenty years. Now, I have a couple of "suspect" spots to show for it. It really pays to try to stop some things before they start!
