According to my online research, around 2004 gmo wheat seed began to be used almost exclusively by farmers in the US and enterred our food chain via breads, flours, and baked goods. This gmo wheat has a new protein that attaches to the opioid receptors in the brain, creating an addictive response. The GMO wheat also contains more gluten for better dough and baking results. Scientists believe that humans already ate more wheat products than their bodies could tolerate and this gmo wheat tipped the scale. The excess gluten sticks to the intestinal walls and eventually causes weakened spots where the gluten, as well as other food particulates, can enter the body cavity and where the immune response to these "foreign" particles causes inflammation. This can result in an allergic response to the foods attacked. The symptoms of both gluten intolerance and food allergies are bloating, gas, cramping, diarrhea, and skin rashes from food allergies. My guess is that most of the irritable bowel syndrome cases (IBS) in the US now can be traced to non-celiac gluten intolerance. The CDC recently issued a warning about the four-fold increase in children's food allergies and skin rashes(study in Great Britain)--except in the hispanic community. Of course, hispanics probably use more corn masa and corn products rather than wheat. Finally, the symptoms of gluten intolerance and food allergies causes lethargy, which can cause over-eating to obtain more energy, and depression from feeling rotten day after day. I suffered the symptoms for years and only learned all this after a chance allergy blood test (RAST test) first pinpointed a few of my food allergies. Additional tests eliminated other foods and eventually, when symptoms persisted, led to getting off all wheat, rye, and barley products. I'm finally well and losing weight at a rate of about 1 1/2 pounds a week--31 pounds so far in just a few months. If I can put two and two together, why hasn't the scientific community? Thank goodness Mary Jane's Farm will take on big corporations like Monsanto who produce these gmo products! We are suffering because of it. You go girl!!! Spread the word and stop this insanity!

I have been wheat free for almost 2 months now, and the difference in how I feel is amazing. I sliped and ate something with wheat in it, and within 15 mins I had a headache and by the evening I felt like I've been ran over. It's crazy how unhealth our food has become.

Joanna, I'm right there with you. I'm marching against Monsanto later this month and want them stopped from polluting our food and making us ill to feed their bank accounts. I'm gluten. sugar and gmo corn and rice intolerant. I've just discovered that other items that I regularly eat are mostly GMO these days. I'm sick of it. Pesticides and ag chemicals are in my water and pollute my yard so that nothing grows in parts of it from run off in the silt and mud that washes down the hills and comes up from the creek. They regularly crop dust over my house and I'm having allergy problems from that as well. America is addicted to wheat, and it causes major obesity and health problems. We need our healthy food back.
