I had an inspiration last night as I was trying to go to sleep to do some more indepth research on vaccines (pros & cons) and do a series of articles on what I find. I think that the majority of people who either vaccinate or not do so because their MD says to or the media says not to. I think that most people do not base their decisions on any type of research and thought that they put into it themselves. With that being said, I don't think that people who do or do not vaccinate are wrong, I just think that people should base their decisions on actual information that they have read and thought about. I already know a good bit about vaccines as it is my job --I give vaccines every day at work and I answer questions that parents have all the time about vaccines, but I would like to do something more with what I know and learn more about vaccines myself. I would like to be able to gather information both for and against vaccines and present it in an easy to read and understand article for parents. I would also like to be able to break this down into several articles covering each vaccine that is routinely given from my own experience--I know that not all states require the same vaccines and not all countries require the same vaccines, so I would be writing this based on the vaccines and schedule that I am accustomed to but try to present it so any parent with a question would be able to get some answers. Anyway, if you have any questions about vaccines or thoughts I'd like to hear them. You can PM me if you'd prefer. I am NOT looking to start any type of disagreements or arguments about who is right (to vaccinate or not) or wrong --I just would like to know what parents think or have questions about regarding vaccines and their decision to either vaccinate or not. Thanks in advance ladies!

I think you should do it Rachel. I like that you want to give both sides for each vaccine. I think it would be very helpful. With all the abilities we have with technology I am always surprised that people do not do much research on their own.

O, a trouble's a ton or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it!
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only--how did you take it?

I agree with you that parents shouldn't make that assumption, but many of them do. I have lots of moms who question what vaccines their child is getting, why they are getting them, what the side effects may be, what the risk is for the disease if not vaccinating, etc. They just get whatever the doctor said they need and then don't even bother to read the information that is given to them, most just throw it in the trash on their way out of the office. I also do not expect to get tons of readers for my project...this is just something that I want to do.

I have done lots of research on vaccination when I needed it. My children are grown and they have children of their own. I encourage them to do their research before going to the pediatrician. Actually they did it before having their children. I don't think parents should assume that another individual will have more concern for their children than they do. I know that that particular comment could open a whole other can of worms but I am not going there I am speaking from my own family experiences.
