I had some awful cramping pain that slowly got worse and turned to sharp pain so I went in to the ER Monday night.

I thought it was appendicitis but it turns out it was "just" an ovarian cyst.

It was very painful and I never had one, that I know of, before.

I have done some research into why I could have gotten one and it seems like it is mostly a hormone imbalance like too much estrogen...

Problem is they can cause infertility so I want to do what I can to try to prevent getting any more.

Anyone have experience with the kind of ovarian cyst that will go away on it's own and what I can do diet wise or lifestyle wise to at least try not to get anymore?

I do not smoke or drink and I stick to one cup of coffee a day and a few cups of herbal tea.

I also had Lyme Disease a few years back and was treated for it and while I haven't been the same since I am wondering if that has something to do with them, possibly?

I have polycystic ovaries--well now I only have 1. You may want to try a progesterone cream that should help counter the estrogens. Avoid any dairy or meats (or any other food)treated with growth hormones. Sometime women get cysts during ovulation (which can still be pretty painful) and then they do go away on their own after ovulation. Mine were not so good to me. I had to have surgery to remove one ovary & fallopian tube and had several cysts removed from the other ovary & tube; this was after 6 months of antibiotic "therapy". And while people usually say that there is no pain worse than natural, drug-free childbirth--that's just not true!!! Anyway....I still have occasional issues with the ovary I have left but not too much. I do use a progesterone cream as needed. You might look into adding one or more of the following supplements as they do help: indole 3 carbinol, dong quai, ginger, red raspberry, licorice, gamma-linolenic acid (or GLA), dhea, flax, wild yam & chaste tree...pretty much any herb, tea or formula for "female concerns" should offer some help. You might also consider a topical application of plantain.

Nope, no soy or soy products allowed, I did a research paper in college and I chose to do it on "the dark side of soy" and I was pretty disturbed. I know some forms of soy are "ok" in small amounts but I'd rather just not have any. I also make sure to read labels because I'm finding that is becoming a common carrier oil used in cosmetic stuff. Not to mention the GMO's in soy. Thanks for the article, I'm going to go read it right away!

Do you eat a lot of soy? Soy can be harmful and cause too much estrogen in your body and it can cause cysts. Here is a decent article on it as well as some other causes...
